How to burn movies to to DVDR+ ?

Hi there!

I'm Melissa, and I'm brand new to this forum...

Can anyone tell me how to burn mpeg files of movies to DVD-R+ ?
The movie file size of an hour-long movie is 5.1GB but a DVD-R+ disc holds only 4.7GB... what's a girl to do??

Thanks in advance for your help!! :)

Hugs,
Melissa

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your stay.

Suggest you first have a read of the DVD to DVDR and DivX to DVDR Tutorials (in the Tutorial sections) of how to do the conversions.

Can you also tell me how were the 5gig mpg files made and to what standard (SVCD/DVD/etc).

Hi Chickenman,

I bought a TV tuner so that I can transfer movies from my old VCR VHS tapes to my PC, and then burn them to DVD-R+.

I'm using PowerVCRII to record the movies in realtime, and then save them as MPEG files. However, the file size exceeds the 4.7GB capacity of the DVD-R+ discs, and so I don't know what to do. :(

Thank you (and everyone else) in advance for your help!

Hugs,
Melissa

Melissa, you can always use dvdshrink (free program), dvd2one, instantcopy, or other new software to make it fit on 1 dvd. The free dvdshrink works, but the quality may not be quite as good as the others. Worth a try since you are going from VHS anyway. I have transferred via a hardware (Dazzle PCI) solution and then divided the MPGs into sized chunks with M2-Edit, but the program is not cheap.
