How to associate VOB's with another player

this is an example on how to switch you default player by changing the association of VOB files

right click any VOB file then choose open with, then choose program if mplayer2 is not listed as an option

then use BROWSE and goto windows media player folder and look for the mplayer2.exe and select it and click OPEN

make sure always use the selected program is ticked and click OK

you can use this method and use any player you want, just guide the browser to the .exe file

A note here MackemX OPEN with.. is not enabled as default in windows 98 /98 se ....so...heres how for the benefit of 98/98se users :)

YOU NEED TO hold the shift key down and right click a VOB then choose open with then make sure the ALWAYS open with tick box is checked then its pretty much the same as above .... browse to whatever program you wish to use in future such as mplayer2.exe as MackemX suggested then hit APPLY :)

keep up the good work MackemX :)

thanks for pointing that out Viper_1069 as I was actually going to check if 2K & ME allowed this option as I knew 98 didn't

with all the goings on today I guess I got distracted so thanks for the extra advice ;)

lol @ poacher lol ..... me prolly .....if i had a dvd burner lol ...... but as i don't .... there may be someone out there that does :)

I was just filling in the gaps in the information for MackemX but you knew that anyhow POACHER lol :p :D

Guys,
I currently have ATI file player associated with the .vob extension. I can get them to play just fine if I actually double click on the VOB files in the temp folder, but if I hit the 'play' icon while using Stripper in order to preview what to keep/remove I get a prompt telling me that I don't have an association with the file type. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

Hi Gary,

Forget the ATI FIle Player. Use mplayer2.exe instead. Works fine.

DVDStripper 0.1.1 will let you define your player without having to associate your VOB's :)

@rickten, I'm not sure what causes your error but have you tried Window Media Player Classic (links HERE) or the player Arianos mentioned in the forum in this THREAD?

I just download zoom dvd player... looks cool, but have a problem...

when I use dvdstripper (0.1.1.) and tell it to use zoom dvd player.. it will load the player when I select an item, but the player just sits there... In stop mode... When I press play, it says no media file inserted... If I goto, open file option in the player, it's in the correct directory, so why not play file that dvdstripper is pointing too???

I do have the option on in dvdstripper to play automatically...

There are just so many options in the zoom player to choose, which one will make this situation work??

Will this player, or any other player out there, play those small .vob files... (like still menu items)and keep it up on the screen.... I have tried media player, and windvd, but on those short .vob files, screen just flashes.. I have to press the play button the player over and over very quick to try to make out what is displayed...

Thanx..

-chris

have you tried Windows Media Player Classic?

I haven't really used that zoomplayer as I just use WMP

have a look further down this page HERE and you will see a few versions of WMP Classic

What is your operating system?

I use XP Pro's WMP with both ver of DS with great success. I tried Zoomplayer only to find that my playback stuttered something fierce so I went back to WMP.

Good Luck!

Hello, I am using windows xp home edition... I have tried the meada player that comes with it, but have the problem I stated with the short menu items.. It won't show those, just goes to black screen, seems the footage is too short for the player to display it quick enough...

I willl give the classic versions of media player a try..

thanx again to you all.

=chris :) :)

just tried the media player classic for XP... have problems....

For a test, i tried to play a .vob file... the player started, and said it was trying to play (play symbol pressed) but just hung with a black screen.... The player was trying to play the file, but froze... No picture or anything, just black...

I have XP home... What am I doing wrong??

This happens to me some times when using MPC too. I just close it down and start again and all is usually OK.

I too, have just begun to have that problem after working fine for days, WMP now says the file or pathname is incorrect and the file is not there.

I'm running XP Pro with the native WMP.

Occasionally it will be an "undefined" vob(title)set. Typically these are identified by relatively small file sizes - sometimes as little as 10K, sometimes as much as 100+K. These are not able to be played by most non-DVD player software. If you associate your VOBs (at least temporarily) with a DVD-player software (i.e. PowerDVD, WinDVD, etc) and try the file, it will probably play a momentary black screen.

These files are usually inserted to allow for consistency in a title set for some reason. Often since they are so small, and are placed there for a specific reason, it is safer not to remove them, or at least do so using trial and error.

I just had an episode where my media player wouldn't work with DS after it had been working fine all week. I tried re-unzipping DS and several other things, to no avail.

I finally reloaded another set of files I had already processed and undid to find that they work fine.

I'm not certain this is the same issue plaguing others, but it may be that in the undo process something went wrong in the set that doesn't work.

If your having problems with a set of items your player can't seem to read, try re-ripping to a different directory and try that set of files before you try fixing other things that may not be broken.

Good Luck!

I have learned not to remove any of the small items that have no picture information in them. To do so seems to invite unstable functioning in a stand alone player.

The issue with my media player has turned out to be something wrong with the entire file set. If I go to another file set it works fine.

Thanks!
