How do you Burn Data Multi Session to DVD

So far nero is the only one that does it(uses its own system) as far as i know. Basicly you choose your burner, choose dvd in the new compilation dropdown menu (upper left hand in the new compilation window) and the rest is the same as for cdrs. Would advice checking your dvd\s after burning though , as this is (in my experience) not always working. Latest versions of nero have improved though.
Only Nero can handle multisession DVD's, which themselves are an anomaly: not compliant to any known book standard.
As Duracell suggested, an open TAO (track at once) DVD session is the way to go. It will be readable only in the burner before its closed, but when finalized it will be readable/usable anywhere.

Thanks for comments. I am not familiar with using Nero. Can anyone give more detail on steps to do this and does it use normal disk format or UDF format and how reliable is it with Nero. I only want it for data backup readable on computer DVD-ROM or DVD writer. Is this possible with both DVD-R and DVD+R formats?

Just wondering what is best procedure for saving valuable data to a DVD-R when disk would be only partly filled if disk is closed after first bunch of data. Is there a safer way of writing data multi session and what is the safest way to save data (not movies) to DVD.

The safest way is to close the disk (CDR or DVDR) make a further copy
use 1 as your working copy & 2 as your failsafe backup.

create a new plain UDF (data) DVD project;
add your files, burn the DVD by choosing: "not closing/finalizing" and "TAO = Track At Once";
next burning time you do the same with the same DVD;
last time when you burn to the brim, you choose "closing/finalizing";

So with a Nero Multi-session DVD, does that mean it's not readable / reliable, as it's not an official Book standard?
I've only tried a multisession DVD once, and after closing the disc, I couldn't read the disc at all in Windows Explorer. Was it just because of a bad burn? Or is there an inherent problem with the multi-session fomat itself?
