How do I compress audio when capturing Divx

Hi everybody!
I´ve just tried to capture divx with the 5.02 codec in Virtualdub.
However the files get too big because the audio is not compressed. I´ve read somewhere that I need a MP3 codec to compress the audio. Therefore my questions are:

1. Which codec should I use for the best and unbuggy compression.
2. Where can I find such a codec.
3. How do I install it so it works with Virtualdub.

flemming my friend!
I think a better idea is to visit _www.doom9.org and look for the guides on how to constact divx!

:p

You can also check this site **w.divx-digest.com/index.html. Once you instal the needed audio codecs, VD will list them in the audio compression window. Lame is a good mp3 codec and its free:)

Thanks Landok and Elsamay.

I think its the Lame ACM codec I need. It should be included in Lame 3.92. But how do I install it as i seems to come without an installer?
Also I already have Lame installed to use with Audiograbber but strangely its not listed in the audio compression window in Virtualdub.

i am no expert on this, somehow all these codecs just mysteriously appeared on my hard drive:) In the case of Lame, if you right click on the acm configuration file you will see 'install' in the dropdown menu.

If you have not already seen this thread from doom.org it may be of interest.

Thanks again Elsamay.

I´ve finally got the Lame ACM codec installed, but when doing so I got a warningmessage that it could harm my system because it didn´t have a Microsoft signature. However I installed it and made it work for capturing with the program iuVCR, but Virtualdub crashes everytime I try to capture with that. Virtualdub works fine with any other codec on my system.
I´ve obviously done something wrong in the installing proces - but what.
OS is Windows XP.

I have only captured dv through firewire and not analog video from vcr. If you go to this site you may find your answer. It appears that you are not the only one with the same problem:)

I am sorry not to be able to help more, but my video capturing experience has been confined to dv video.

I hope the above links will give you your solution:)
