Homepage set button greyed

Some of those spyware has disabled the "use current" button in IE properties->Homepage (I think lop.com, which I already removed), I suppose there's a registry key to change but can't find it, any idea ?

Thanx

Hi bud have read about this.Use the newest version of Ad-aware,
it is supposed to work. There are also two uninstall progs available for Lop.You might have used them already.;)

I hope they work...attached!

I runned the uninstall program, and lop set itself up again !!!
Before running, Ad-aware didn't find anything, after-> 108 keys found by lop...Those files seems to be the INstaller, how comes?
didn't know about this unistaller...but think it has some probs ;)
I also had a file called like ***.tmp trying to make an outbound connection to a site, but I my firewall blocked it.
Bahhh...Fu**ing spywares...

Here is my suggestions...

Run regedit.. Click on EDIT, FIND and search for RUNONCE.. and when it finds it.. look at the key RUN found right above it.. If you don't see RUN.. hit F3 to continue looking..you might have to hit F3 a few times. It should look like a folder with the name RUN.

When found, remove anything you don't recognize in there. LOAD POWER PROFILE is fine.. but remove all the other junk you don't recognize. I've seen it hiding itself in Windows commands, so remove anything like SCANREG, DEFRAG, the big one used is FIND FAST or LOAD OS, etc.. You don't need to run these things for Windows to work... Just Power Profile..and taskbar..

Now.. You should find 2 RUN FOLDERS.. do both. One is for anyone.. one will be for your current user.. DO BOTH. Then reboot.

WHY DO THE ABOVE: Simple.. Stop this thing from running, then you can remove it.

After Reboot...THEN.. run ADAWARE and remove everything it says to.

Now.. you should be out of the woods.. It is possible that this program lies in Internet Explorers Helper Apps.. wich means it will come back once you launch IE.. but the above fixes 99% of all of these spyware programs.

Lemme know if this helps...

P.s. I also forgot to mention.. After doing the above.. to remove the greyed out button, remove the key from the registry located at

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

You'll see something like, NOHOMEPAGE or something like that. I don't know the exact key..cuz I ain't got your problem. But this is where you can add the keys, NORECENTDOCSMENU, NORECENTDOCSHISTORY, as well as turn off cd autorun, etc...

Also check
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings

Somewhere in there is your problem

Ok, don't worry about the RUN/Runonce dirs in the reg, there's no problem with it, only programs I want to load there.
Ad-aware removes correctly the spyware, I know that sometimes it ask to reboot to del a used file, but not with this spy...:)
Right now lop is NO more on my pc, it just came back running the unistaller (woody thanks for help anyway...;) ), the only thing is that button which remains greyed even if lop is gone.
I set the homepage by the reg key if I need to change it, but I want my button back.
In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\Policies\Explorer can't find such key or similar.
This is all I have:

ClearRecentDocsOnExit
NoChangeStartMenu
NoCommonGroups
NoDriveTypeAutoRun
NoRecentDocsHistory
NoRecentDocsMenu
NoSMhelp
NoSMMyDocs
NoStartMenuSubfolders
NoTrayContextMenu

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\Explorer\Advanced

and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\Internet Settings

No way bro'....

Okay Lore,I removed the uninstallers as they don't seem to work, maybe they were somebodies idea of a joke,(from a large website).Won't name it!

Found more info for you!!!Lop is listed on this page!

h**p://www.cexx.org/adware.htm

You can also try a google search,of removing LOP.com.

That is where I found this link...Good luck!!;)

Thanks Woody
I found on microsoft kb an issue:

Unable to Change Home Page Setting in Internet Properties (Q195161)

but do not applies to IE 6 :( ,anyway the problem is the same...bahh can't find something similar in the reg for IE 6

The site I mentioned did describe how to get home page option corrected!Check it out carefully.I think it's under hijacked home pages.;)

Your running XP right? That sounds like why most solutions won't work. In XP, everything is different. I think your reg file is actually loaded per user..

Woody the site you posted is great but the problem is that their registry is a lot different from mine (yes I'm on XP:cool: )

This seems to fit but...

"Next you have to unlock all of the options you have been locked out of.

Go to the start menu > RUN command > type REGEDIT and press enter.

To avoid confusion from this point on, I will call registry hives and nodes "Folders" since that's what they look like in the most common registry editors. Navigate through the folders until you get to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ software\ policies\ microsoft\ internet explorer. If there are sub folders called "restricted" and/or "control panel", delete them. Close regedit and all open Internet Explorer browser windows. You now have access to your internet options again. Also check for the same keys under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ branch."

I haven't those keys in XP, I searched Hkey_Local and CurrentUser, nothing....bahh
