Help please!!!

hey everyone this is my first post and i have a question which is really annoying me. I have downloaded a load of WMV (windows media Video) files and i want to burn them to a cd to make a VCD so I can play them on my computer or DVD player. My dvd player can use VCDs and SVCDs. I have all ready tried to burn them with Nero but it is says that the files are unsupported or whatever. So i was wondering if anyone knows which programme i could download to change the file so i can burn them to nero. Or a burning programme which will accept WMV files. Thanks for reading and any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks FaBaLuS!:D

Asftools and Tmpgenc can convert wmv to mpeg.
(not so sure if this applies for series 9 windows media files).
Oh, and NEVER use Nero or Nerovision Express to encode... it sux.

from memory its pretty easy to convert wmv to mpeg then to vcd :)

its merely a case of changing the file extension of .wmv to .asf open a folder and choose folder options choose to show file extensions and rename the file from .wmv to asf then load into tmpgenc and encode to mpeg and then burn as a vcd :)

im sure there is a little more you have to do with tmpgenc to get a fully compliant vcd but as most dvd players accept CDRW you can test and play about as much as you like :)

I'm sure our resident GURU chickenman will step in and add to this :)

common chickyman i know yer reading this :)

Have in mind though that depending to the .wmv characteristics and/or the strength of your puter the conversion can take hours, and the .mpeg files considerable HD space. If I can recall well .wmv doesn't appear as supported format in Tmpgenc, but nevertheless you can insert it without renaming.

yeah no need to tell me about long conversions on a amd k6-2/ 500 processor sux bigtime !!! lol my adsl is faster lol :)

WMV and ASF are the same thing. As said TMPGEnc can encode it just fine including WMV V9.

Also seeing as how this is car more video related than CDRW, I'm moving it over to DVD To DIVX/(S)VCD > General Discussion.

PS. Always good to see a really descriptive title.

So true ChickenMan. When I first got started dabbling in video I read anything I could get my hands on.

TMPGEnc and WMV

Hi friends it looks like some masters in thi forum. I have some questions. As mentioned in this forum I am sure TMpGEnc would work fine with WMV to MPG conversions. I did that many times.
One day my PC got screwed up and I had to restore my hard drive. Since then I was not able to open WMV file in TmpGEnc. It says cannot open file or unsupported. Can any of the masters please tell why this is happening.
Do I miss some codecs or settings. Please let me know.

Thanks VIPER_1069. I did try everything.

Like chnaging the file extensions and checking the priority in the environment settings and all I could found in the forums and net. I had that working before I formated my hard drive.

So I think it is some codec files or som template files missing. same set of files works well in my friends machine. Just can you please help me in pointing what do I miss.

Thanks

GSPOT, its download addy would have to have been given in about 100 other threads here so far. Just use the Search button at the top of each page and you will find it.
