why dont U return it and exchange for the one with the software...

First I have a DVR-104 which is a DVD-RW and windows xp sees it has a DVD-R drive. Second if you just install your drive why are you looking to up date the firmware? I would say only update if your having a problem. Also a friend of mine has a few of those drives and one of them have a newer firmware on it and that one does like some cheap DVD-rs that he can use on the others to burn at 4x. One last thing I only buy oem drives why pay more!!!:) Good luck.

Do you have ASPIs installed? You might want to check out something from woody. Tips for beginners to DVDR burning/DVD backups. Also use he's tip on disabling XP burning software. Lets us know how you make out. :D Also you seen what I said about oem.

Arr.. what drivers are you trying to install ? There are no drivers required at all if running any version of Windows. If you have replaced your CDR with the burner, did you check the Slave/Master jumpers on the back of the unit, are they the same as what your CDR was ?
