Help, I can't get my 106 to write DVD's

Does anyone know how to get a Pioneer 106 to write to a DVD-R in Windows XP SP1?? All it does is this. It says the operation will take 3 minutes. It does a lead in track which goes from 3 minutes and countsdown to 25 seconds. Then it writes 3mb and stops. And writes another 3 mb every 10 minutes. This is with Stomp record now max 4.5 with the newest px engine.

I have tried, Stomp 4.5, new pxengine, nero 6. All does the same.
I have tried prino red, yellow, datwrite white ritek, silver top ritek, g03 ritek, mirror and 1one discs, and datawrite 2x grey tops all with the same result.
Makes no differance what speed i select.

I am running windows xp sp1. I am running it as a secondry master. A plextor burner is on the secondry slave. I have a hdd on primary master and dvd-rom reader as primary slave. I have tried every other combination with swaping these drives around and it does the same no matter what I try.
I have tried the drive on a standalone 1-1 duplicator and it works fine, so I know the drive isn't faulty.
I have tried all versions of aspi, killed aspi and re-installed each version through to the latest.
I have deleted my drives from windows and my ide channels from windows and re-installed them.
I have formatted the PC and re-installed windows and the problem persists.
I have tried my 104 again (i got the 106 to replace my 104 and take the jump to 4x writing) and that does exactly the same error as described above now. I have formated and re-installed xp with the 104 in. I have tried a new ide cabel too and tried.

I am completley stuck. I have searched the internet and found nothing about this error. I do not know what to do now??????????

Can anyone help :(

Thanks

Laura, have you disabled the XP imapi service in services?

What about Nero 5.5.10.45? 6.0.0.9 is buggy (but worked with my 106D), and 6.0.0.11 is out.

My 106 is master with a Yamaha F1 CD-R/W as secondary on an Abit mb (NO VIA drivers, only XP IDE drivers).

As a last resort, you can update the firmware to the latest...

Can anyone help :(

Thanks
Hope this can help you.. I have gone from 104 to 105 to 106 in this box and still works..

RecordNowMax does not have full support for Pioneer 106 yet.
Also, Nero 6 has issues when RNM is present (Nero 5.5 didn't have any).
You'll have to wait for full RNM support, and Nero 6 ironing out "some" of its bugs. Don't ask when those will be...

Hi Laura, nice to see you here btw. :)

As said at the other forum it looks like it is most prolly a hardware issue right now as you ahve now had the same problem with your old 104 too and after all the other things you have tried. But yes disable IMAPI and as scarecrow said RNM is not compliant fully with the 106 yet, prolly does work with it though but will give write speeds as "min" & "max". You could always try burnatonce which is FREE from www.burnatonce.com but as you are having the same trouble with the 104 now I don't think software will change anything.

Try another IDE cable, if no go change the IDE channel the drive is on, could then be a RAM or heat issue as I said earlier.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Laura, I recently also acquired a 106 (long story) and had a lot of trouble with software, the only program that would write to the disc was Recordnow max 4.5, it now records a treat. even on 4x datawrite classic's.

106 probs

I have a 106 as secondary master and a plextor 48/24/48a as slave i also have probs burning dvd's. But if i put it in my other system on its own it works fine. Looks to me like a compatability problem with pioneer and plextor.................

106 probs

i disconnected my plextor. DMA is on and it burns fine now done 3 films and all ok....

I recently purchased a 106, I'm using XP Pro SP1, the Pioneer is slave on the secondary IDE to my Liteon CD burner.
I'm using Nero 6.009, have all sorts of software installed related to burning etc, CDRWin, CloneCD, BlindWrite, DVDXcopy...Xpress...Platinum.

I've not burned many DVD-Rs yet, but those I've burned did so faultlessly.
My Panasonic SW-9581, is still connected(Via raid connector on mobo).
DMA is not enabled nor IMAPI, Aspi 4.71 is installed and I always use 80 pin IDE cables particularly with ATA 100/133.

I have not updated to ver 1.07 firmware, as I have had no need to yet.

Try changing the IDE cable as suggested already, make sure the drive is connected to the cable correctly too. The master should be connected to the end connector (black), the slave to the middle (grey) and make sure the jumpers are set correctly too.

You haven't mentioned the make/model of you motherboard, this could have a bearing on the issue. For instance whether it is ATA 33/66/100/133, it could help to solve the problem if you could tell us as much as you can, hardware and software wise.

i always found on my abit board that uses via drivers that if i didnt have them on it would not write at all

it would say it was but would just stop

also xp sp1

On my Abit AT7-MAX2 and on my AT7A, both running XP SP1, I do NOT load the VIA drivers, and have no problems burning. The VIA drivers have caused me more problems than just using the XP ones.

Use Nero 5.5.10.xx, Burnatonce, etc with no issues. Do not have EZCD installed. Do not have packet writing software installed. Disabled win IMAPI.

106 problem

ok i am running a clean install of xp pro service pack 1 on a

2800 xp
gigabyte ga-2n400 pro
128mb geforce 4 ti
primary master 20gig maxtor
secondary master plextor 48/24/48 a with updated firmware
slave pioneer 106 new drive with latest firmware
80 gig maxtor on raid master

when i burn a dvd with the plextor connected it writes ok no errors but when i run it through nero cd speed it drops off the scale at the end of cd, film jumps like mad at end.
without the plextor attached and the 106 to master it burns fine and the graph in nero cd speed is smooth all the way, film ok all the way to end.

I am using traxdata ritek go4 dye. And only installed nero nothing else.

I am running the 106 (and 105 before that) as the Secondary Master with a Yamaha F1 as Sec Slave. The 106 does not like to be Slave to another ATAPI writer. Suggest you try the Plextor as Sec Slave with Pioneer as Sec Master (unless you can put the Plex as Pri Slave to your 20gb HD, then put the Pioneer on its own as Master).
