help getting on to site??-strange problem

first i want to say what a great site, and thanks for everything. a wealth of all around computing knowlege lies here. i HAVE to visit every day. my problem began when the site went down a couple weeks ago. i was surfing at work(dialup)and connected to the site and also connected to my second favorite site cdfreaks.i came home,and tried (cable) nothing 2 blank pages-it was only 15 minutes later,so i suspected it was my computer or internet connection.i can connect to every other site and all my other favorites. so i started to dig deep and didn't find it until the next day. i can only connect to this site and cd-freaks if i go to control panel-networking-and modify my ethernet card -i have to enable 802.1p support(wireless)?don't ask me how i found it i told you i HAVE to visit my favorite site. but this changes my mtu-from 1500 to 1496 and if i disable 802.1p support mtu goes back to 1500 and i can't get on this site. it's no big deal as long as i can get to the site.i'll just change settings. here are some specs
win xp pro:
3com 3c905tx ethernet card:
cable internet:
the only computer connected to the net:no routers
i tried flushing dns cache etc still no go unless i enable 802.1p support
any xp pro or networking brains out there?

just wanted to add acouple more specs

no popup stoppers
no firewall-xp firewall disabled

I also have difficulties connecting to the main site. Am I missing something that everybody else knows. After the site stop few days ago I was able to get connected until the 30th of August. For 31st and 1st do not know. But today 2nd I cannot.
