hdd keeps powering up and down

hello my hdd keeps making a noise as if its slowing down in speed then speedign up very quickly and the pc laggs for a little then goes back to normall and happen's about every 30 mins to and hour can any one advise on the problem thanks

Is it set to power save the drives, it's possible that it just gets to the point of power down, and then needs to bring them back.

The other thing I think of is a dodgy drive power connector.

Are you sure its not one of the fans? - I had a PSU fan die once, and fortunately it didn't take anything else with it. A failing CPU fan might cause thermal throttling, though I'm not sure if the Celeron supports it.

tried it all

Hello i have tried all of that and power seeting is set to never turn off hdd and checker power connectors yet it still does it. Any more HELP PLEASE as it is becoming very annoying.

Erm yes but its not running when this happen's nothing can be running at all and then you move to open say "my computer" or anything and it laggs up then you hear the hdd slow down then speed up very quickly and this happens at random

How about you post a picture of >Windows Task Manager >Processes.
So we can get a better idea of whats going on.:)

I think i have stopped it da only thing i could think of dat couls have stopped it was Norton Ghost V10 and i have now turnend that of and stopped it loading up at start up and it has now stopped and it seems not to be happen at the momement ill get back to see if it doesnt and to ask for more help and thanks

@02coled in future to make a screen shot just press yer print screen key whilst holding the ALT key and this will capture the front most screen then paste into paint and save out as a jpg :)


not sure what you used to make your screen shot but as scarecrow points out the current ones are far too tiny to read :(
but no doubt if you had ghost running and polling or scanning your drive for changes this is what is turning or ticking the drive over :)

so does any one know how i can add the picture's as me and "PC GUY" cant seem to upload pictures to this thread when i try to it tells me "upload fails"
