I am new to the forum, this is actually my first post.My ? is: I just bought a dell p4 2.4, 256 ram, 40gb hd, 48x cdrom, dvd+r burner. I have not recieve it yet and dont know anything about the software on it. I am interested in ,as the people on here call it , backing up my dvd collection and need to know what i need. Do i have to have a dvdrom to play the movie? I am not that smart when it comes to computers but know a little. My os is win xp. Will i need new software? Theoretically, if you rented a dvd from the video store you could burn it correct? Not that i would do that. Just hypothetically. All the info here has been helpful, some of it a little over my head but helpful. Thanks.

Do i have to have a dvdrom to play the movie?

no it should play in the dvd burner

you may find reading in a DVD rom drive faster when backing up than reading in the burner
