Hard Drive Temperatures..?

My hdd temp is 46*C, When ripping from the radio for 2hrs, it rises to 49*C.
What i want to know is, what is the normal temperature to keep a hdd?
Is my HDD temp too high???

i use to have the drives fixed ontop of each other, now ive moved them so there is a gap inbetween them, now the temperature is around 39-42*C.
I hope this is ok?
Im using DTemp to Measure the Temperature

Hot ! Hot !

my suggestion is ... go get a drive cooler like cool masters. They look like caddies for hard drives but they come with fans - there are single and two fans versions, but just make sure you have a pretty powerful power unit, else you might get power problems - of course this depends on the number of devices drawing power form the PC.

I would recommend it if you have 7200 rpm hard drives running for long hours.

Shadey is right on this.

I was getting a number of crashes before I did this, now I get none! I don't think that they draw too much power though really, I've got this plus two other case fans with 4 CD/CDRW/DVD drives running off a 300w PSU with no problems at all.

BANGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, what did I just say.......... :D :D :D

I only have 1 shitty 2500rpm case fan at the moment.
I also have 300W PSU.
Ive got these devices:

1x 16x10x40 plextor CDRW
1x 16x Pioneer DVD
1x IBM 60GXP 60Gb
1x IBM 75GXP 60Gb
Also i have the creative LIVEDRIVE!

I recently installed a duct into my system because my CPU temperature was way to high, it was 51*C IDLE and 58*C Under LOAD. The duct reduced the temperature by -13*C!

The duct i made was simple, cut a square into the said of the case and alined it so it was in line with the cpu, after cutting it, i simply got a sheet of card and made a square out of it and fixed it onto the CPU and the CASE...it made a huge difference!
The noise level is slightly higher but not much!

My Temperatures are:

AMD Tbird 1.4GHz : 37*C (IDLE) - 44*C (100% LOAD After ripping for 2hrs from radio)
CASE : 35*C (IDLE) - 36*C (100% LOAD After ripping for 2hrs from radio)
HDD : 38*C (IDLE) - 42*C (100% LOAD After ripping for 2hrs from radio)

The only probably i can see is that i need to do something about teh case temperature!!!
Clearly i need a faster or maybe another case fan!!!!!.
I never switch my computer off, its on all the time, the only time it goes off is when i install software and rebooting!!!
I have never experienced any problems with my 300W PSU.

I've got one of those "Exhaust Blower" fans that fits in the space of a PCI slot and blows all the hot air out through the back.

Can't believe the difference it's made! :D

They are only £5.99 at Maplin (UK) too.

Case temp is now a constant 25-27*C

Well what processor have you got ? If you're using a fan u got with your processor - it might be an idea to check out the processor fans on the internet - there are some very powerful fans with huge heat sinks that will definately cool your processor a lot more than what your using now.

If you're daring i guess you can try and drill some holes in your case on the side and affix a fan there to draws warm air out of the case. If you could make a few more ducts to ensure a good air circulation inside your case.

You could get a drive cooler for each harddisk.

Super Orb Fans are pretty good
They have copper (super orb 3) and aluminium (super orb1) base ones for upto 2.0GHz.

I think about 39 US$ copper and 59 US$ aluminium. Thats just a quoted retail price - you'd probably find it much cheaper on the net somewhere.
