going from dual boot to single boot?

My daughter has a Compaq Presario with Windows ME on it. I added a second hard drive and installed Windows XP on it making the computer into a dual boot machine. Now the original hard drive sounds like it has had a terminal heart attack.

I want to remove the original hard drive and hook up the new hard drive to the primary IDE connector (it is cable select so I shouldn't even have to change a jumper).

What I want to know is whether there is anyway to make the computer recognize the operating system I have already installed or do I have to reinstall everything (which I can do -- it is just a pain in the rearend)?

Thanks.

Okay, which os u want to keep?? XP??
If u have installed XP on the same machine, u don't have to reinstall it.
XP will automatically configure itself when you change from slave to master. :)

Sorry, it was stupid to omit that fact. I want to keep the XP which is currently on the "D" drive. Based on what you say it sounds like everything should go smooth with no software adjustments by me at all.

Thanks.

Basically, everything should be fine.
However, since this OS is from microsux, u can expect the worse :D
In case your winXP f*** up, just use the repair option when u boot from winXP CD
