Now added - ASF, FLAC (free lossless audio codec) and MPC (Musepack - often spoken of as an alternative successor to MP3)

While they are not WAREZ, and not copyright, I would suggest people prepare to archive copies in countries that do not uphold any patents that may apply - OGG/APE are pretty safe, but anyone hosting MP3 encoder binaries in a country where Fraunhofer patents are valid, is likely to be harassed.

They may also be after you for licence fees if you use MP3 media on a website.

The MP3/OGG argument echoes the GIF/PNG one, that it is better to use a format which does not have irksome patent issues.

Nice, but not much of an achievement...
Speek's Multi Frontend supports encoding and decoding of most known compression formats with the best possible quality (or any custom parameter one can think of) plus MP3/ogg/mpc tagging.
The frontend alone is a massive 55 kilobytes download- freeware, of course.

I will add one tip - if the SETTINGS for any plugin cause nero WAVE EDITOR to bomb out, try accessing the seme settings from within NERO - that seems to fix it (in my case, I mada a small adjustment and OK'ed it - that might be essential)

Yes, there is a frontend, but until these plugins, for Nero there was only the 30 use trial, buying, or cracked/copied that could get shot down by the next update.

To be honest, though, better to rip using EAC - and a supported DLL or command line encoder for that - almost ANY command line encoder can be used, with manual parameter setting.

Personally, I favour RazorLame as a Lame frontend - probably beacause it was the first one I tried.

No, it isn't. mp3pro is patented by Thomson Multimedia, and its held on commercial rails. But you don't need to bother about it, it is quite good just for speech recording and poor quality encodings. In high bitrates it sucks (lots of annoying artifacts) and loses hands down to well encoded MP3 as well as most of the "advanced" compression formats (ogg, mpc, aac).

Cheers Scarecrow.The reason i asked was i use musicmatch plus 2 encode my cds with mp3pro & have had no probs with quality even though it halves the filesizes.Thought there might have been one 4 nero

for banziboy download the mp3pro encoder decoder demo version which does not expire from mp3prozone.com it encodes only at 64 but i testedit the qulaity is better than most mp3 enoders at 192

WEll put that 64 to mp3 lame vbr192 and if you dont see any difference you can encode at 1 btr--if above vorks for you all other will be fine!!:rolleyes: :rolleyes: :D :D

Actually my bath tub sounds way more hi-fi than any 64K mp3pro encoding- no matter if I play back thorugh a 15-year old ghetto blaster or a pair of Creative computer speakers, or an expensive hi-end stereo system.

I normally do them in Musicmatch pro & encode at 96k/with cd transparcy & the sound ok 2 me, but me just got me Hi-Fi back so i wiil check them out on that:)
