Hi alrite,

ive just followed chickmans tutorial on how to convert divx to dvd.
Ive got through everything ok but im up to the bit where i author the dvd using TMPGEnc DVD AUTHOR.

Rite i followed all the instructions and i got up to the bit when i biegin out put but it came up with an error about the size and audio. i just ignored it and carried on.. but ive looked and the folder is 4509 in size but a dvd will only hold 4.37 gb.

Why is it this big because that wont fit on a dvd.
And it took it 41 minutes to finalize all the vob's and everything but in the tutorial it says it only takes 15 mins.

Can i just compress this dvd using DVD Shrink to get it down to 4.37 GB?

Also it said sumthing about audio 144something i carnt remember.

Help really needed....cheers

Welcome SKOOLGUY,

Dont forget the differences in file size measurements .....

1,024 Kilobyte (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)
1,073,741,824 Bytes = 1 Gigabyte (GB)
1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,024 Megabyte (MB)

Your 4509 (MB ?) does appear to be too big however.

Audio sample rate should be or will have to be resampled to 48 kHz, (VCD's,Divx's are likely to be 44 KHz), and of a data rate supported by the DVD / MPEG standard (192~384 kbps)
Some softwares will do this for you , if not Chickenman's tutorials will show you how.
Yes, you can use DVD Shrink to get it down to 4.37 GB.

so how can i get it down? need help really bad...

BY THE WAY I AM SKOOL GUY AND DVDMan007...lol
The clue was in my first reply ! DVD Shrink. (or Instant copy by Pinnacle).
Why masquerade as 2 people ?

The audio is in 44.1khz sampling and not 48khz as the original error message suggested. What you are trying to do will not work, you MUST convert the audio to 48khz before you can do anything. Pressing Continue in TMPGenc DVD Author when 2 errors have told you there are problems is a bit foolish dont you think?

If you set audio bitrate to 192 in DVD2SVCD and then convert it to AC3 at 384 bps, then the end result will always be to big and wont fit to a dvdr. Check the audio settings that you used, they must both be the same bitrate.

I have never had a problem with DVD Shrink at all. If it wont open your Vobs created using TMPGEnc DVD AUTHOR , then you need to fix the audio as you
say there was a problem with it. ALL files in the VIDEO_TS must be DVD compliant.
In any way, you dont need to use a program such as DVD Shrink in this case if you got the DVD2SVCD conversion correct (for size), but it is a very quick way of just getting the size down slightly cus of mis-calculating in DVD2SVCD.

So can u give me exact instructions on how to get round this problem?
Trying to help , but it really is all well explained in the tutorials (Chickenman's).
He says .... "Run Windows Explorer, locate your DivX file, and RIGHT Click on it. From the window that opens, go to Properties, then Summary. You will now see all the characteristics of the file."
'Gspot' is also a very handy program to tell you your video/audio properties.
It will give some idea as to the audio ..... 48 or 44.1 Khz. stereo etc.
.....quote .. "Untick Audio 1 downsample 48 -> 44.1 as a DVD must have 48khz audio to playback on DVD Players"...... " if it was only 44.1khz, then see NOTES below. (2) ".
Also note step 18. ... Using AC3 Machine (with BeSweet).

Hope this has helped. You really have managed to do all the hard work. But it does show that converting Divx back to DVD-R can be bit troublesome and tedious....... let alone the lip sink problems badly done Divx's cause. (nother tutorial).

Wot did you put last time .....when it didn't work ? I would put 192. It's gunna work at that no matter wot i believe. If it dont , then sumin else wrong i guess.
Have you tried Gspot ? find it through google.

ive put it at 192 if it dunt work im gonna blow up my pc...wot is gspot? what do i do with that? Cheers
LOL.. we all been there I think.

Gspot may just tell you more about how the Divx avi is made up.
Shows the video and audio make up ... ie ... bitrates , sample rate , stereo , mp3 , Ac3 , wav , bps etc ...... It may help you decide wot setting to use in DVD2SVCD. I think it's main purpose is to tell you wot codec is needed to play that particular movie file , and whether that codec is installed. Very neat.

Just thinking ,...if you or DVD2SVCD have not deleted the video and audio streams that DVD2SVCD created, you may have been able to convert them to a correct format that TMPGEnc DVD AUTHOR or other authoring program requires :D
Just so as not to lead you on .... I however use DVD Maestro to author and individual versions of CCE and video/audio tools to convert the avi. Which is essentially all DVD2SVCD does all in one interface.
Stick with it, you will learn much from this.

If its 5 ch Ac3 then use 384 (as I say in the Tute) but if its only 2 cg ac3 then use 192 or 224. Again its all there in the Tutorial.

So was this 2nd attempt using the same AvI or was it a different one? Please post what GSPOT says about the Video & Audio. There is a SEARCH button at the top of each page, it will find you GSPOT.

Use the attachment feature to a Repy to show us any screen captures you have.
