Firewalls!

Well, how do you know which one fits you best. Mostly, security issuesdepend on the security leaks in the browser not depending on the firewall, I think. I've tried Sygate, ZAPro, Norton, Tiny and alls sorts, and must admit, Norton was too strict, but the others worked well. However, I didn't like Tiny, since, I think it didn't really provide excellent protection. Norton does, however, still, to be able to download from cdrsoft.cc Ihad to turn it off, it blocked any ftp connections, maybe there was something wrong with the settings. Is Kerio really that good?

I just gt this 25K D/L for checking outgoing on firewalls. Just run on line and click NO when you get a pop up to "OK" and read BlackIce info in it!
Last years but I am slow anyway.

My primary firewall is LookNStop. The best set and forget firewall IMHO. doesn't take up much resources and has passed all online security checks i've tested it with.

I also use AtGuard like FortiTude and netman. Serves as my back-up firewall, ad-blocker and cookie manager.

oops I mean F-Secure, its using the F-Prot scanning engine

"Thank you for evaluating F-Secure Anti-Virus, please enter the key code and click the unlock button"

:(

f-prot

hello dna, could you give me the rar archive password, I have downloaded the retail file f-prot from there and the rar file needs a password for unpacking. I though because you are using the file and you have downloaded it from that site, you probbaly know the password. Sincerely

f-prot

Thank you, Bertieg, the idea works, I was just not sure, if this works all the time, well, it seems to work in most cases, like now.
Thanks again!
Put yourselves in the hands of wise men!:) All!

First message!

I've tried several firewalls including Norton, Sygate, and Zonealarm (would never use Black Ice). Right now I am using Zonealarm Pro 3 (I have a lot of patience) and was just curious about if there is any advantage to running more than one firewall. Would Sygate + Zonealarm be a good idea (assuming they play nicely)?

Its a good idea to run a software firewall for a little additional security (both outbound and inbound), regardless of connection type. Furthermore, the firewall probably won't hurt you in any way so there is nothing to lose.
To joripe -> Thanks I decided to go with Sygate Pro 5.0 and Adsubtract.

My best choice, after trying ZA, Outpost, Sygate & Look'n'stop is

Look'n'Stop!

It passed all the test I made it run trough, any leak's included!
Quite no resources asked, very easy to configure!

It perfectly runs both on 98SE & XPpro!

I've just installed BlackICE Defender, and it fits me very well! There is a security test on sygate's site http://scan.sygatetech.com/, which was unable to find any security leaks on my machine, running Win2k(SP2), IE 6+security patch, and the result was impressive. Though it is possible, that the scan itself was not very thorough. Does anybody happen to know sites offering security scans? I would appreciate your knowledge! With Kerio and Sygate itself - as the scan showed - the machine was vulnerable as it detected some openings in the secure shell and something else about my e-mail client as well.
So go ahead for BlackICE Defender! Works for ME!
