Finishing touch...

Hi,

First I would like to say DVDStripper is great ;)

I have used DVDStripper to remove the making of, the promotion movies, and the FBI warnings of the movie Bad Company. After that I used MenuEdit to disable the buttons that lead to deleted pieces, like the making of.
So far so good, now my question about the finishing touch:

This is dvd structure as it was:
language selection menu > 4 promotion movies > main menu > another warning > main movie

DVDStripper replaced the warnings and promotion movies with a (dummy :D )file of a few frames length, because I chose to remove them.
I suppose to keep the DVD stucture intact.
The 'problem' is that it takes about 5-10 seconds before the main menu appears, because the dvd player needs to go through all those very small chapters (the chapters that were those promotion movies), before it reaches the menu.

Is it somehow possible to really skip those chapters, and go directly to the main menu after the language selection menu? Perhaps with IfoEdit? Or is there another method?

I also would like to skip that first Warning, the player needs to go directly to the language selection menu when the DVD is entered.

That little thing keeps me away from creating the perfect rip ;)
Thanks for your help!

It will all depend on the player as some are faster than others

I have been playing with jumping to the main menu or movie and also selecting whatever button you want to be highlighted at first

I'm busy creating a few programs to make DVD Authoring real easy to do. I don't know how long it will take tho :(

I'll give up. IfoEdit is very hard. :(
Can you give a rough estimate when I will me able to use your authoring tool?
Or are there any other authoring tools for my problem?

I know it's quite confusing and that's why I 'm creating this tool so that it's simple for people who may have difficulties with Ifoedit

I could have talked you through it or I could have adjusted the IFO's for you but the DVD you stated is affecting copyrighted material so I can't :(

please take the time to have a quick read of the FAQ thread

DeadMetal - Take a look at this post for some help with your DVD startup issues:

http://213.83.55.226/showthread.php?t=34859

After I complete a couple more DVD's over the Christmas holiday I'll post more information on how I'm using MenuEdit and IfoEdit to modify the DVD startup. I think I figured out how to go straight to the menu on insertion of the dvd and straight to the movie from the play button, but I need to do more testing.

good info Tim and hopefully early in the New Year I will have 2 tools to work with DS that will allow you to do this with just a few clicks and no need for Ifoedit or MenuEdit :)

even adding or editing the command still may not work as my testing showed. I've learnt quite a lot in the last few days regarding this to go with what I knew before so I've decided to learn how to do properly and I created CommandModder on Monday to make it real simple for everyone and it's coming along just fine :)

I'm playing with both of them now in Beta status and CommandModder is in HEX editing status and will hopefully be converted to real simple text in the next week or so :), if I'm sober at any time and around my PC :D

so you can decide which part of the DVD to start with, even start with the movie I suppose or select which button you want highlighted or automatically pressed (ideal for language menu's I hope ;))

MenuModder doesn't allow button command editing just yet but again it's being worked on ;) but does allow all the usual requirements that most will use it for such as button removal :)

I must be lucky as I've never yet had the need to skip to the main menu. By the time I have shut the tray and sit down it's at the menu even if it takes a second or 2 but these 2 tools should make it instant for everyone if they need it :)

Merry XMAS people :)

Thanks for the info Tim, I will try it asap. :D
And MackemX: good luck with the development of those tools, I'm really looking forward to the moment that I can try them ;)

Thanks Tim.
With IfoEdit I changed the First Play RPG.
With MenuEdit I changed the play button in the main menu to directly go to the movie.

Just one thing remains:

Language selection menu > 4 promotion movies > main menu

This needs to be:

language selection menu > main menu.

How to do that? In the language selection menu I disabled all the menu languages that I don't need. I discovered that the button in the language selection movie needs to point to VTS_01_0.VOB > VOB_ID 17 (cell 1).
(that is the menu in the language that I want). Which command from the list (in MenuEdit) do I have to choose to let the button point to that location?

If that isn't possible, just linking to the 'main menu' is also good (although that isn't the language I prefer)

I haven't ripped any dvd's with a language selection as the first menu, but unless you want more than one language, it should be easy.

Rip out the language selection menu and go straight to the title menu via IfoEdit command. If it's doesn't work going straight to the title menu (wrong language), then find out which title it is and use my alternative approach.

PreCommand...(JumpSS VTSM) Jump to TitleSet(vts): 1, Title(ttn): 1, root-menu

Also, when you use DVDShrink, Recode, or whatever you will be ripping out the languages you don't want anyway so you shouldn't startup with a language you don't want. You can/should also use DVDStripper to take out any foreign language menus you don't want on the dvd. This is fairly simple because they are usually in a separate menu VTS. I hope this makes some sense ... let me know if you have any other questions.

Unfortunately, changing the First Play RPG to title menu, causes both WinDVD and PowerDVD to crash. I tried both of your methods.

I suppose because no language parameter is passed through from the language selection menu to the main menu or something.

The dutch menu (the one I prefer) is in VTS_01_0.VOB. MenuEdit says: VOB ID 17.

yep, it's a tricky business trying to skip to the Menu, especially when there is a language selection screen before the menu so that's why I've never bothered as it's so easy to upset the DVD and it will get stuck in a loop or just bomb out

I have such a DVD that has a language selection screen, then announcements, intros, trailers and finally the menu

when I tried to skip to the menu, it didn't work but with a few tweaks here and there using my new tools it now does skip straight to the menu

I'm still trying to make these work as easily as possible so the user doesn't even have to look at an IFO :). Most won't know the first thing about IFO's even if you give them a step by step guide so I decided to make it easy for the user and hopefully I will in time

Merry Christmas all :D

Once you've used DVDStripper, you can always run DVDShrink which gives a nice way to strip out unwanted soundtracks. Keep in mind, however, if your source is greater than a DVD5, DVDShrink will reduce it. That won't solve your menu issue but will yield a more trimmed result.

The button in the language selection menu contains the following command:
g[0] = 2, LinkTailPGC (button 0) leads to the dutch menu.
g[0] = 1, LinkTailPGC (button 0) leads to the english menu.

Maybe this helps us to find a solution.
What means LinkTailPGC?

In DVDStripper, what VTS is the Dutch Menu in (what number)? Are the Dutch Menus the only menus in that particular VTS?

Where can I see in what VTS the Dutch menu is?
(sorry, but I'm still learning every day)

And where can I find more information about the meaning of all those terms, VTS, Titleset, Title, PGC, VOBID, Menu VOBID, cell etc

Btw, today I succesfully backed up my first DVD (which didn't have a language selection menu), I stripped all the warnings, changed the first play RGP and the command of the play button. Thanks :D

Unfortunately, here in Europe most of the DVDs do have language selection menus, so I need to find a way to skip the stuff between it and the main menu, or just going directly to the main menu upon disc insert.

In DVDStripper, look on the right side to see which VTS the menu you want is in. Let me know the number it is and if it's the first item in that particular VTS.

The English and the Dutch menu are both in VTS 01.
The language menu is Item 2 in VTS 01
The English menu is Item 3-19 in VTS 01
The Dutch menu is Item 20-34 in VTS 01

Have you tried removing Items 2-19? Or possibly 1-19? Then modify the IFO to go to the title menu. If you do that, it can't go to an English menu because it doesn't exist.
