Can somehow Menuedit be the Viewer?
I have the registered version 2.2, put it as default viewer, but VOBS don't open. Does someone know a workaround, as it would save ages on button editing, especially on huge menus.

I doubt it would work with Menuedit as it's trying to play the VOB's. You would probably have to implement some sort of commands to get Menuedit to open the VOB

I do have an issue with the player options though as DS works just fine with most players for me, apart from ATI as I cannot set it up to play VOB's using DS as it does not have an .exe but I like ATI player :(. I also have issues with WMP yet WMP Classic works and I like to use those players as they leave the stills from menu items on view unlike PowerDVD which just flashes them but I like PowerDVD for my main VOB association as it shows information of the VOB. I want to use PowerDVD for my Movie stuff and then WMPC for my menu's At the minute I have to clear/add the alternative player path in the options each time I want to swap players which takes absolutely ages to do! :(

another reason for 2 players is that sometimes one player does not play the video and just plays a black screen. Normally if nothing plays it's best to remove it but now you can check with another player just in case it's the player

in time a button option to use either the default player or alternative player will be implemented so you can switch if your normal association doesn't work or vice versa. This way the user will get the option of what player they want with just a click of a button. I could then use PowerDVD for movies and WMP for menu's all in the click of a button :D

Could DVDStripper remove layer-breaks automatically (but optional)?
I think it could be done, am I wrong?

what specific player problems? I know some users have issues with certain players but there's numerous players out there you can use if any particular one doesn't work :)

if the player was intergrated it would just cause more issues and having the freedom of choice is better. In time DS will have its own player again as it has actually had its own in one of the earlier versions before. If TMG gets some time, which he is very very short of at the minute, he may just put it back. It's priorites first at the minute and a player is a few down the list at the moment

cheers :)

Hi all.
I think I may have discovered a way to mod the menus while using the new beta version of DVDStripper. I associated the alternative player to Menuedit, checked Viewer/Menu Items/ alt viewer and now when I click an menu item to play, Menuedit opens with the VOB ID displayed and it's much faster as it's only loading the menu VOB I want and not the whole VOB!!
But there is a trick involved:
You have to open Menuedit, open a VOB (any vob), check 'Show all cells' and hit exit. That's it!! Next time you double click an item on the Menu list, it opens with Menuedit. This was with the reg. version as free version has limitations
So now, I have MP2 to view the Item List, and Menuedit for the menus! Super!
When menus are extra heavy, I can even have MP2 as viewer, and change it on the fly when I encounter one that needs button changing!!!
as you only open the menu's you need
So instead of 500mb+ menu file on the more sophistcated menus, which takes ages to open and then you have to find the stupid menu in all the VOB/Cell ID's, edit it and save it, which normally would take about 10 minutes, now I can spot the menu I want changed using MP2, and do it in seconds!
Thanks Guys!!!!

@Arianos, this didnt work for me in 2.2.0 as I tried it when you first posted the suggestion as I got the same empty screen :(

but is it because 2.3.0 is different or is it DS 0.2.0 beta 1 or is it both? Do you have any idea what it is? Is it the 'Show all cells' option? Does it work in older versions of the 2 programs?

I guess I'll try this out next time I get to play with DS as I was just modding the buttons the normal way before

cheers

That's the trick :) I was busting my ...head to see why Menuedit was not opening the VOBs directly, and quite by accident I 'discovered' the little thingy. I wouldn't suggest the free version of Menuedit, as it doesn't show all cells. The registered version is for us :) Remember I wanted it as a viewer primarily.
And yes, it works for 2.2.0 too, with the 'Show all cells' option ticked.

I can confirm this works. WOW. Menuedit cleans up all the menu navigation problems by simply disabling the button, definetly worth the money for both dvdstripper and menuedit.

Hi MackemX,

Just got beta2 today right-behind beta1 Friday. Hope you're keeping the 'MadGuy' happy & well fed!

Would greatly appreciate the future ability to "trim/cut out" credits etc from chapters/cell(s), where the sole or last cell contains both the last few minutes of the movie/episode AND all the closing credits. {**1}

While I would understand this feature as a lower priority versus other improvements, such an option would allow one to cut out 5 to 9 minutes of precious space / wasted video {**2} on multi-episodic output requiring compression to single disk size.

**1 - With the Soprano DVD's, the standard title/intro is a seperate chapter/cell but the end credits are not.

**2 - Unfortunately, many if not most "episodic's" carry the credits on each and every episode, just like when they were originally broadcast.

Thanks

Quoting MackemX, 11/8/03 above:

Yes, There are many, already existing fine 'VOB Viewer' players available for we users to selectively integrate with DVDStripper......... WinMedia Player2 (shortie) and ZoomPlayer in particular, work perfectly with DVDS!

Please focus continuing development of DVDS on truly needed areas of improvement.

Thanks

Can DVDstripper include an audio/sub stripper option to get rid off them?. It would very helpful....

Thanks

what exact playback problems where you experiencing and with what players?

maybe someone could have helped previously as nobody else has had playback issues that have stopped them from using DS. Some have had issues but they have found another player that works for them as there are plenty out there. I have issues with WMP 6 just like another guy mentioned on this fourm yet I know quite a few use WMP, so I know it's my system that has issues and not DS. I haven't bothered loking at the reasons why it fails as there is no real need

it's a shame you didn't hang in with DS until the dust settled as a lot has changed in the last two weeks. We have been addressing as many user issues as possible. We have slowly eliminated most or at least know why they happen and how to overcome them temporarily until they are fixed

Ifoedit issues seem to be related to certain system files and again most now have it working when it didn't work before

We would love to implement that option and it has been on the wish list for quite a while :)

With that option DVDShrink would be unneeded for 30% of my back-ups, as now I only run thru Shrink to remove subs/audio on that % of back-ups,making DVDStripper even more useful.

This is getting very interesting....

Error Messages

It seems a lot of people first using DVDStripper get caught with the cryptic error message about "invalid path". Maybe clearer error messages could be generated that say:

"Target path invalid or non-existent"

"Temp path invalid or non-existent"

"Backup path invalid or non-existent"

This would force the user to confirm that he/she created the folders on the hard drive in the first place and didn't fat finger a path name.

I support the request for removing audio/sub tracks

Wanted to place my vote for this feature in a future release. Audio tracks are definitely big consumers of dvd space. So while we are removing unwanted video material, it makes sense to be able to remove unwanted or unneeded audio and subtitle tracks. We know that IFOEdit can do it; just need the DVDStripper interface to give us that option and safely/correctly do it.

Thanks.
