F-Secure is slowing my comp ALOT...

I installed F-Secure and I think it's much better than Norton...

But I just discovered that if I go into the Real-Time options and turn on the Scanning Options to Scan All Files and Scan Inside Compressed Files my comp won't run, it's so slow, but so slow that I can't open windows explorer it takes like 5 min to open it.. But if I turn off Scan All files and Scan Inside Compressed files it runs smooth...

This way I'll have to go back to Norton..:(

Isn't it best to leave all that options turned on?

This sux..

I had the same problem with F-Secure. I read that they had changed the scan engine and that is the cause of the slow down. I got tired of the pokey computer so I uninstalled it. I have read of others having the same problem. As far as I know, there is no way around the problem.

Try AVG Antivirus or Pc-cillin. Both have been good to me. I'm currently using AVG with excellent results. There are two versions; free and pro. I'm using pro.

Well... PC-Cillin I didn't like..... don't know why..

I'll try AVG, I'm getting it from my friend...

THanks eddie...;)

The prob with f-secure is that they are using AVP's 4.X.X scanning engine, which, as we all know, slows down ur pc a lot.
Try using f-prot instead ;)

why do you need to scan all the times for real time? do you get a lot of viruses or something? the beauty of f-secure is that it doesnt scan all the files..it's simple too.

Due to the way F-Secure is working you should NOT have "scan inside archives" enabled for realtime protection. If you have F-Secure to do this it has to uncompress and compress every file every time you touch it. F-Secure Gateway protection rest until you try to work with a file. Therefore you don´t need to scan inside packed files, nor do manual scans. If you have a virus in an archive it doesn´t matter until you have unpacked the files and try to run any of them.
IMHO F-Secure is one of the AV apps that uses less CPU and memory. I have used it for over tree years now and think I know this app. And so far F-Secure has secured my system from all treats. Try to read the manuals and learn how the program is acting and you have the best AV solution available on the market. Norton is bull compared to F-Secure.

I agree with LaZorMan.

Anyway if you run once a full deep scan with Inside Compressed Files on your machine and that you did not find any virus then you are clean. You can even try with Online Scan (h**p://www.wilders.org/free_services.htm)
After that if you leave the Real Time Protection in the background without Inside Compressed Files option checked, there is no reason to get infected.

If by any chance you download ZIP or Archive files then just scan them on demand with Inside Compressed Files option on.

Hope it helps.

Ehm, Lazorman, does fsecure 5.4 work on win98??
Coz i've done a clean install, and when installed f-secure, the next time i reboot, i get bsod. Got into safe mode to remove f-secure, and all's back to normal. :(
But it works on my winxp partition

Why don"t you try then NOD32 from Eset. This is also a very good AV.
