can any one help me please. encode large avi with dvd2svcd

Hi I wonder if anyone could help, I have a film which comprises of 2 avi's I have joined (to try to get the film on one DVD disk) the avi's together using avi/mpeg/rm joiner. The finished avi joined and plays back perfect sound and picture in sync. The only problem I have is I tried using dvd2svcd to encode which went right through the conversion process but when I play back the file the last 5 minutes of the film plays sound but doesn't show the picture instead it has a black screen with avisyth (not sure how to spell it) and the version number at the top of the screen in red writing. The finished avi is large 1,428,666 does this mean the file is too large for dvd2svcd to cope with. If anyone has any ideas on how I can remedy this and encode the file without problems I would appreciate it if you could let me know.

Thanks

Never had a problem with AVISynth and large files, but if I had two AVI's I would just join them with avisynth. Guess maybe there is a problem with the AVI. Have you checked it for errors?

Thanks Celtic_Druid, I will check the avi for errors and let you know what I find. How do you join in AVISynth if you don't mind me asking I've never joined with it before.

To get that AVISynthe error, it simply means you have a problem within the AVI. I have encoded a 105gb AVI through DVD2SVCD without a problem so your rather small file is not a problem.

The avi needs to be "fixed", so run it through Divfix and DivxRepair to see if it can find & repair the error. If not, let us know.

Hi Chicken man I ran the file through DivFix and it found no errors I also ran the avi through DivXRepair and re-encoded, the same problem is still occuring, not sure what to with it.

I just fixed one this way myself yesterday, load the avi into VirtualDUB, in Video tab click Compression and select the Divx or Xvid codec and set the bitrate to be 20% or so above the original AVI's bitrate. Audio to be set to Full Processing mode if the audio is NOT AC3. Then in File, hit the Save AVI, give it a new name, and go. 30min to 1hr later you should have a new avi with both video & audio streams being reencoded. Then convert that one.

Could also try using directshowsource instead of avisource in your script. Personally I have never had such a problem with AVISynth. I generally use whatever the latest alpha build is though. Not sure what version you are using.

Thanks to both of you I will give both ways a try tonight after work with a bit of luck it will be successfully encode. I am using avisynth version 2.50. I'll let you know how I get on.

Thanks a lot.
