eDonkey users, please...

Ok, that's the first time I install eDonkey. I connect to the server correctly, then make some search and put in the download list about 5 iso...well, I'm on a 300 kbits/s, dowload at 37 kb/s and up at 13 kb/s, can you tell me why I up always at max speed and get at 2-3 or 0.6 ? Even if I'm downloading at 0 there are -Unasked- ev'rywhere....I played a bit with priority but still no luck.
I've been told to change the simultaneous requests to a single server by the registry, mine are at 100.
Now, I can't belive people get that fast and up (almost) nothing, as I noticed that if you add download speed you have to add upload speed too. There's a lot o people that have the files I want and have parts I don't have...how comes ? :confused:

P.S. I tried to change many servers too

am not quite following what your saying lore (lol sorry), but I think your talking about why your download speeds are slow compared to your uploads?
Can't tell you. I myself get low speeds & normally takes a few days before you can download anything with eDonkey (at least my experience). Only good thing I notice is that eDonkey has a lot of things (speeds are not as good as Xolox was), but speeds are just terrible.
There are some tweaks & such you can do, but I don't know if they really work cause am not fooling around with those much.
Hopefully someone else who has been using eDonkey longer can give a better response.

Good luck

you also need some patience. especially in case you're downloading rare files. sometimes it takes upto 3 weeks or so :( ... it's ok anyway.

christian

lore, you could also go to w*w.sharereactor.com for more info,
downloads and a lot new servers which is very useful for the donkey;)

another thing (after experimenting a little these past 2 hours & finding some tips) is to set your upload speed to only 90% of your actual upload speed (so your system can send packets needed). Also try decreasing your download speed from the max to 5%-10% under it (this also helps you if you decide to browse or do other internet related functions). Also update your server list often (as they get updated every day I think) of around once a week or so.
Oh & make sure you are sharing some files (other than those in the edonkey temp list you are downloading).

These settings should give you the best results for now. A new donkey is in the works, so hopefully they will have some of these connection issues resolved.

darn edonkey

All Ive gotten out of edonkey has been hours of waiting. The donkey has been "looking" for the past few hours. I never did like donkeys...

eDonkey used to be pretty good, and even with the bug kept eating up internet resource and locking up the system, I was still be able to download 1 full CD within 1-2 days (sometime it worked better than normal).

Now, I have to delete many programs after nearly a month waiting for the very last few hundred Ks. Many files been sitting for 1-2 weeks with not a single byte.

And yes, I set to 50-100-200-300-400 still doesn't make any difference. I even tried the bot and it too wouldn't be any help.

yes I would have to agree with Luuve,
eDonkey is just a mixed bag of goodies & baddies.
Sometimes it works fine (so far working ok for myself, though super slow at that, but I only grab rare items there *anime).
Better off using a bigger client like gnutella or kazaa styles.
They are faster & you just have to hope the quality of material you get is good.
Only good thing about eDonkey is at some sites it tells you all the info about what you want to download (this includes bitrates & what formats & quality of everything).
If you want fast downloads, stay away =)

Edonkey

I cant connect to any server in edonkey.Can someone help me I here this program it great.
I've tryed every thing:confused:

I use the donk all the time and I get pretty reasonable speeds

I am on 1.5/512 cable I set my upload to 35kb a sec and my down to 500

My max connections is set at 2999

I have found that to keep my speeds up I need to keep my server list updated
I update this at least a couple of times a day

If u click the little ? in the top right hand corner of the e-donkey u wil find ur ID number

Ideally this should be as high as pos mine is 32billion

If that is low u will get shitty connections

U can update ur server list manually by going here

h**p://ocbmaurice.dyns.net/pl/slist.pl

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the add-all button
Click yes and it will add all the servers to ur list
Also uncheck the remove dead servers box in the e-donkey options window as it deletes servers even when they are ok..u get a bad connection and u'll loose all ur servers really quickly

U can also use an auto update script to keep ur server list up
by going here

h**p://www.ed2kutils.de.vu/

Put in Edonkey Directory
Open ED2KUtils
Goto File - Options - Update, Right click and add the following in one by one.

MET Files:

ttp://ed2k-serverlist.go.dyndns.org/server.met?download

Obviously add "h" before the ttp://

Goto the script tab and set to execute on Double Click

open the script editor and paste in the following

// ===========================
// ED2kUtils Script v1.2
// ===========================
// Author:Scanss
// Date:
// Description:My Script
// ===========================
RefreshEDonkeyMET
UpdateFromAll
StartEDonkey
CloseUtils
SaveEDonkeyMET

WHen u run the script with all the server lists in there it can take a few minutes but it will give u a lot of servers and that seems to keep the connections running pretty good
Hope that solves some of your problems
Just remember that it can take the donk a little bit of time to get started and its best to download (in my opinion) 5 or 6 files at least at the same time
and dont sit and watch ur downloads just let it run in the background and check it every few hours

Enjoy

As far as I can tell ur ID number is the priority given when u try to connect or others try to connect to U

Therefore Higher ID means more connections means more speed

If u have a low ID after u have run the script..exit the donkey and then restart it without the script as ur servers are updated make sure u have the "always stay connected" box checked and that should sort that problem

Defragging ur hardrive also helps with the hashing speed
