Easy way to reencode avi->smaller avi?

Id like some sugestions on which program is good for this? i used virtual dub and vidomi but i seem to get lost in it. my reencode always has audio, but black screen. any tips would be appreciated.

what im trying to do is, sometimes theres a few 300 mb(divx) anime that id rather have it be 150 mb for example.

If you load the AVI into VirtualDUB, set Video to full Processing Mode and then in Compression, set the codec to DivX and set the bit rate, say, 400. Then hit Save AVI and it will convert to a lower bit rate sized AVI with corresponding lower quality.

Thanks ChickenMan, it works now, though i came across a weird problem, the audio is like squashed, only there for the first 5 mins or so.

What i did is use your method, but with no audio. I then extract audio only and merge it with the newer encoded file. Do you have any clue why it happens? the audio is cbr mp3 128 kb. thanks again for your help.

Not encountered that prob before. Audio should be set to Direct Stream Copy and it should just use the old audio track, untouched.

Are you using latest VDub ver 1.4.11 ? Nandub is also worth a try.
