DVD2SVCD Audio

Hi Chickenman, been a while since I got over here. Still looks good.... Got a question for you. I am making SVCDs now with DVD2SVCD and love to resulting quality. Now for the question: How can I increase the volume on the SVCD? I am using the CinemaCraft encoder by the way. When the SVCD is done I like the quality and the chapters it puts in. I hate to change anything else, was just wondering if there was a setting that would allow me to bump it up a bit. As always when I need help I know where to go, you always seem to know the answers.....

Gee, thanks for the confidence, I hope I dont let you down! Good to see your into SVCD now. I agree the quality is so much better and now that affordable fast PC's are available, then there is little reason not to convert to SVCD over VCD.

There are a couple of areas in SVCD to change volume etc. In the Audio tab, make sure Autodetect Azid Gain (2 pass) is ticked. That should automatically increase volume to a "Normalized" amount. If unticked, the default value of 6 means absolutely nothing to me! I always have it ticked and have seen increases of up to 16 db added and as low as 0.1 db. from various DVD's and AVI's.

Also, if you tick the small down arrow next to BeSweets location, the V, you can change the Overall Dynamic Compression from Normal to Light. This will increase audio slightly as well.

Ok, that seems to help, will test more. One more question now. I have a surrround sound system on my DVD player. Is there a way to bump up the volume on the two speakers behind you? An easy way? You da man Chicken Man......

If you tick the small down arrow next to BeSweets location, the V, you can change the boost or otherwise of all the channels. Remember there are settings for both AC3 2 Channel and AC3 6 channel depending on actual souce file.

Is the original DVD your ripping particularly loud? If not, make sure Azid Gain (2 Pass) is ticked and click the V arrow next to BeSweet location and hit the Use Defaults button, that will set everything back to normal.

DVD2SCVD 1.1 Build 1,audio question

CM,
A question out of the blue for the latest DVD2SVCD concerning audio. Would I get better audio quality ticking "same as source".
Just curious........

If u mean should you tick " do not convert audio (use source audio)"
Then no.
U would not make a compliant vcd.

I find no reference to "same as source" in DVD2SVCD. Please point me to it !

Even if there was one, ticking that would not make a compliant VCD as all DVD's audio is at 48kHz, not the 44.1 as required for a VCD.

CM,please
