DVD to DVD copying

I am new to this so please excuse my questions if they have been asked many times before. I have searched the forums and am still confused.

What s/w should I use to copy dvd movies?

I note that Ifoedit is not win xp compatable, so is there an alternative?

Any advice gratefully accepted.

Steve..

Thanks to both of you for replying.

The problem is that all tutorials that I have read say to use "Ifoedit".

Ifoedit is not compatible with windows XP.

Is there anything else I can use other than Ifoedit?

Steve..

I have now got Ifoedit to work. I was doing something wrong!!

But.......... even though I follow the tutorial to the letter, I still get an invalid file format error when trying to play the burnt dvd.

I am practicing on a dvd rw, could that be the problem?

I have not yet tried a dvdr in case they turn out as coasters.

I use ifo edit in win xp without problems.
Make sure you have a valid dvd decoder installed if want to preview dvd file in ifo edit.
It can be either power dvd or windvd.
Hope this helps.

Ok, I don't know exactly what happened, but I have now successfully copied a dvd using smartripper and Ifoedit then used Vob instant to burn it to a dvd rw and a dvdr and both can be watched on my pc.

However, neither will work on my stand alone Toshiba dvd player.

Is there something special you must do to be able to watch them on a stand alone dvd player?

Steve..

Make sure your Toshiba can play dvd-d/dvd-rw formats.
You must be able to preview the movie using the internal dvd player in ifo edit.If yoy can't preview in ifo edit there are no chances that the dvd will be played on a standalone player.
To preview in ifo edit open the ifo file of the main movie than click on dvd play.

I believe that my Toshiba can handle these formats.

I have followed the above and this is the result...

I open the ifo file in ifoedit and select play dvd.

I then get a warning message..

"The videodecoder does,nt produce closed caption data.

Do you still want to continue?

I select yes, and ...............

The dvd player window opens, and I get an error message.

"Get number of chapters failed"

What is going wrong?

Steve..

Can you please detail the procedure you used starting from the dvd ripping?
Pls detail step by step.

cheers
