DVD-R Discs Compatibility help

Just bought a Sony RDR-GX3 DVD Recorder.

I am a newbie to this, can you use any DVD-r disc with home burners, or do you need the right kind of DVD-R discs for home recorders

Nope, a dvd-r disk is a dvd-r disk but every recorder can have some quirks and some brands may be better than others. At dvdrhelp.com they have a list of media compatability for dvd players & burners, so check them out.

For a standalone recorder, the performance of the media at 1x speed is what's important - but I expect the cut-price disposal of 1x-2x media has already been and gone.

There is a different issue with consumer AUDIO CD recorders, where Audio (code indicates copy tax paid) media is required ... how long before they DO consider that for DVD recorders?
