DVD Player problem?

I'm having problems watching DVD's on my computer. Firstly all the dvd's are genuine region 2 PAL disks but some will play perfectly without any problems whilst others only play the sound without any video (not much good unless your blind).
Up untill around 3 weeks ago I never had a problem, I have uninstalled and re-installed all relevent software including aspi to no avail, is it worth me spending som hard earned dosh and buying a new drive?

Any ideas guys n gals.

It could be something related with your graphic card drivers, check the settings for overlay of your vga card if you also try looking for a new driver version for your card.

i don't think the VGA driver or player settings are the problem, because it would display all or no videos;
anyhow, looking for a free player update is worth a try;

would assume the media or the drive itself is the problem; try to rip the content to HDD and playing back from HDD;
