I'm trying to convert my pal movie to ntsc and am using that long chickenman document. If I understand it right, I need dvd maestro to do this. I've done a search here as well as a google search and from what I can see there is no freeware or trial versions of dvd maestro. Can anyone confirm this? Also, I imagine that there must be some other similar software that does the same thing, no?

thanks,

If you are referring to this tute from ChickenMan - http://www.dvdrbase.com/showthread.php?t=26515 - then go down to the bottom of the page and he instructs you in how to convert Pal -> NTSC using DVD2SVCD, which is a free proggy for you to use and to convert with..:)

Visit here for DVD2SVCD - http://www.dvd2dvd.org/

Maestro was bought out a couple of years ago and hasn't been updated since and wasn't a freeware proggy sorry. It's main use is for re-authoring and/or adding more than 1 movie/TV episodes to a disc..:)

DVDLab Pro is very similar to Maestro in features and operation, worth checking out. If no subtitles involved, then check out TMPGenc DVD Author, both have 30 day free trial versions available.
