DVD-9 Burners

Just made a my first backup of a DVD (on my roomates new computer.) using DVD decrypter. It was a Layer 1 Disc (DVD-5) and I had no trouble.
DVD-9 burning seems a lot more complicated.

As I'm very new to this, I was wondering if there are any plans to get DVD-9 (Layer 2) burners to the market any time soon.

Any info?

Thanks

Until then, software like DVDShrink will have to do - (or insert favourite re-encoder here), They are faster than FULL DVD encoding, but as you cut deeper, you lose more quality than you would in a full decode and re-encode.

They also save space (usually) with options to discard additional languages and non-movie content.
