The following is the transcript of an ACTUAL radio
conversation in October 1995, between a US Navy ship off
the coast of England, and the British authorities. The
transcript was released by the MoD on 10/10/95.

BRITS: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the South,
to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: Recommend you divert your course 15 degrees to
the North, to avoid a collision

BRITS: Negative. You will have to divert your course 15
degrees to the South to avoid a collision.

AMERICANS: This is the Captain of US Navy ship. I say
again, divert YOUR course.

BRITS: Negative. I say again. You will have to divert
your course.

AMERICANS: (shouting)THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN. THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET.
WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS,
AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE
YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH. THAT'S 15 DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.

BRITS: We are a lighthouse. So fuck off.

Stupid Brits..

In the USA it is customary to identify who you are when hailing another vessle. No wonder they were confused! I'm sure this wasn't the first time that happened. They probably thought it some dumb yokel on a private ship.. not a lighthouse (by the way, they should follow US customs and identify themselves.. it'd help I'm sure)

I have two problems with this story: First, I heard the same
story with different details many years ago.
Second, being ex-USN, I know that the Lincoln was assigned
to the Pacific fleet, as evidenced by the following:

In April 1995, Abraham Lincoln departed on its third Western Pacific deployment. The ship made visits to Hong Kong and Singapore on the way to the Arabian Gulf. In the Gulf, Abraham Lincoln lent support to Operation Southern Watch in response to renewed Iraqi military posturing. The Abraham Lincoln Battle Group also participated in Operation Vigilant Sentinel.

Upon returning from deployment, Abraham Lincoln left Alameda, Calif., for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Wash. There the ship underwent a one-year comprehensive overhaul including a period in drydock. Following completion of the project, the ship moved to its current homeport of Everett, Wash. Jan. 8, 1997.

Who gave us the Croix de Guerre?
What country's asses were saved by our involvement in WW2 AND 3?
What country benefitted from the Inchon Landing?
What country needed some relief for Earthquakes and got a 500 MILLION USD grant?
What country needed some relief from terrorists but received none from the UN? huh? Any takers?
