down loading onto dvd

I realise that i may sound simply but can someone please
explain to me in easy terms how to down load onto dvd
i have dvd re writer in system and have nero 6 installed although this is not software that came with dvd re writer

i also have CuCusoft convertor on system to convert should this be needed
i have films on hard drive but cannot manage to download

i may be in wrong format i am not sure

i would be grateful if someone could guide me through the process of this
i don't really understand about ripping but will learn how to do this
