Copying Dreamcast Games using Discjuggler

I'm using Discjuggler 4.01.986-PRO2 to copy some Dreamcast games that i bought from someone else ages ago.
Every other disc or so i keep getting errors - read errors i can attribute to scratched discs.
But i'm also getting 'Internal Controller Error' when it's trying to write the first short track. The thing is it keeps re-trying and eventually doing the job and continuing. After finishing it seems to boot up fine in the DC.
I'm doing non-on the fly copying to try and make it as stable as possible - and even resorted to writing an .cdi image first on one disc that was causing troubles - which seemed to work.

Any thoughts? Seems like it's taking me forever. Is dodgy media to blame? I'm using 80min Datasafes - but i haven't really had any problems with anything else i've burnt. I would try and tell you the writer except i don't know what it is - except that it's 12X and can't do cd text!
I also initially tried Nero to do a straight CD copy and it wouldn't even start to read the discs.
Anyone else remember DC games being a pain to copy?

To the best of my knowledge, Sega Dreamcast games can't be copied. Check this link at look at the top right corner.

.....

Sorry i meant i'm copying 'backups'..........
It seems like my cd-rw is better at reading the discs to start with as well - i tried creating an image using my dvd as a reader and everything locked up at 3% - which probably coincides with the start of the second track.

Did you read the thread I posted, print out? If your going to try and copy your backups, use CloneCD and burn at 4x. I have NO clues as to what settings you should use because I never tried to make a Sega Dreamcast game backup. Use your writer to read the image(s):D:D:D

Yeah i've read the whole article before.
I'll give Clone CD a whirl - can't hurt - the coasters are piling high at the moment!

CLONE is not really great for DREAMCAST copying juggler is the most widely used and nero is able to copy them !! they are in the CD EXTRA format so software that can deal with cd extra can cope yeah clone can do CD EXTRA but its not very reliable :(

Well i've gone back to Nero and it seems to be going o.k. using the cd-rw as a reader.
That's the last time i try and copy some games as a favour for a mate!

Actually i never had a problem copying Dreamcast Backups, only a few - but that was physical damage to the disks.

The best prog to use for dreamcast games is Discjuggler, of course u can use Nero - it would work just as well (sometimes).

What i've noticed is . . . . if the disk has scratches . . . . DJ has a higher chance of detecting and reporting errors than nero. Nero just seems to go right ahead and copy it with or without errors. Whether thats a good thing u decide. But games that i copied with DJ that reported CRC errors seem to have glitches during game play.

To address your problem . . . .
If u have such disks - i would read them very slowly when making an image. (like ur already doing)

You shouldnt copy DC games on the fly - they never seem to work for me. I always backup to image then burn to cdr, which i find works best, and i never burn a DC game at any higher than 16 speed.

What i've noticed is . . . . (seems to happen more often on PAL DCs though.)
Games burnt at 20 speed - never work for me - the disk just spins like crazy in the DC drive.
Games burnt at 16 speed - tend to load slower, probably have to re-read more.
So i tend to burn my games at 8 speed or lower, a pain to wait - but u can be sure it works alot better in the dc drive.

Games copied with CLONECD tend to work only in JAP machines not EUR machines - i know this cos i've already tried it.
I guess the JAP machines have better lasers, especially the first batch that was manufactured.

@ Shoebedobedoo

actually u can copy from orginal dc disks - need a serial cable to attatch to dc and the dc can act like an external scsi drive

Cheers for the tips - hopefully i won't have to copy any more games! My writer is only 12X so no probs there. Burned about 30discs with 6 coasters along the way - but at 13p a shot it's no biggie, just a pain. It's all good learning experience.
