when i'm trying to encode an .avi file with these properties Audio Format mpeg-layer 3 160 k/bits 48000hz stereo Video Format 576*240 125638 frames 23.976 frames/sec 136 kb/sec using TMPEG it crashes when creating temporal wave file in VCD PAL format but works fine if i encode to DVD PAL format.Has anybody got any suggestions on how i can turn the .avi file into an mpeg file. Cheers

converting an avi

Try this,my guess is that you're using the wizard in TMPGEnc, close the wizard and go into the manual settings, on the main screen make sure you have the system set for Video + Audio, in the settings you should only have to do 2 things, in the Video tab set the Aspect Ratio to the (PAL) that you want and on the System tap set it to (MPEG-1 Video-CD) and thats it. good luck

First of all, have a read of our Tutorial at http://forum.cdrsoft.cc/showthread.php?s=&threadid=161
I'm sure it will help.

Now with AVI's made with DivX 3.x, 4.x and now 5 Codec together with VBR audio, etc, etc its becoming harder and harder to encode every AVI (DivX) to MPEG1 or 2.

You should have both DivX 5.x and 3.11a Codec installed to almost guarentee a video conversion.

For the Audio, generally stripping it out as a WAV file first from VirtualDUB is the best solution there. Under Audio tab, set to Full Processing Mode, then Save WAV... Use this WAV file as the Audio source in TMPGEnc and the avi as the Video sourece. Load in the NTSCFilm VCD template as well.

think i may have sorted my problem,if i don't load a template and just change to pal format it starts encoding. Thanks for your suggestions.
