CDRWIN - ASPI Manager

I am running Windows XP pro on an 800 duron w/ 256 Megs of RAM, XP was upgraded directly from win 98 (no re-format), the CD-RW drive is an Iomega 8x4x32, currently have discjuggler, nero, CDRWIN, and i think one form of an adaptec burning software (came w/ burner). I never know what information is relevant so let me know what else you need about my system and i'll try my best to find it.

I just downloaded CDRWIN 3.8D and whenever i open it i get this error message:

CDRWIN
Error: Unable to initialize the ASPI manager
ASPI manager was not found on system

I am completely illiterate as to what this is saying. First of all, could someone tell me what my computer is looking for? Secondly, does anyone have any idea how to fix this, as CDRWIN will not work at all. Nero also will not allow me to burn.

I'm not sure if these are problems related to upgrading to XP pro (I've been running it for a couple months, but this is the first CD i've burnt since upgrading) or if my computer is just screwed up (this morning while playing a game i got a "please insert game disc" error message. I then tried to open my player, but it would not open. I exited out of the program, but it still wouldn't eject, i had to reboot to get my player to work again.) (Last night when i turned on my computer it ran for maybe 5 min, then completely locked up, mouse wouldn't even move. I turned off the power completely as it was my only choice, then restarted the computer. Same thing happened, I went through this cycle about 10 times before going to bed. This morning it was fine.)

These past couple days have been extremely frustrating as i hate it when my computer cannot do things it should be able to. If anyone has any suggestions they would be most helpful. Thanks in advance

Then get rid of winXP and do a FRESH install of Win2k ....

At the very least do a FRESH install of XP.

It is bound to save you LOTS of trouble down the road.

Thanks Guys!!!

Got it worked out!
Thanks for the download, needed a couple more files, but found those on the main sight! Able to burn now!

Get Rid Of The Adaptec Software Use The Others:cool:
I hate all apps from Adaptec. All you get is problems in one way or another. But in general their ASPI is the best for use with different brands. I have tried to use eg. CDRWIN included ASPI and the result was a system crash caused by a driver failure. Adaptec ASPI solved this..and it works with all apps I use.

Even better...ditch CDRWIN 3.8D and use Burnatonce. Simple but effective proggie for Bin's, Cue's, and ISO's (still needs ASPI though). I use it with CDmage and EAC. Excellent! :D

Its a GUI front end for cdrdao.
h**p://burnatonce.redir.net/

Also do a search on this forum for some advice on this excellent little proggie.

Or just use Nero. Has its own aspi layer dll that works. Burns ISOs great, just need to convert the old BIN/CUEs with WinISO or such first. Since the maker of BIN/CUE, CDRWin, is basically no more, why not convert to ISOs anyway? Save headaches down the road. Btw, I have XP Pro, Adaptec ASPI 4.70 working just fine. Also can run the old CDRWin3.8f, Dup-DVD (tho it's flakey), DiskJuggler, and just say no to Roxio/Adaptec burning software - the packet writing software especially causes incompatabilities with others.

why would you convert a bin/cue before burning it with nero ?

nero burns bin/cue better than any program i have seen.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention...Burnatonce is freeware!
Why download Nero and crack it...only to have problems not knowing if its the crack or the proggie itself!

BTW, freeware won't ban your key on updates either ;) :D

B****y annoying, I got a good ASPI layer on my system and DiskDump will accept only my IDE Liteon and my IDE Pioneer DVD . It will not work with my 2 SCSI devices, 1 being a reader UltraPlex x40 and a writer Plextor 12/10/32s. Now my mate as the same setup as me as in hardware and yet Diskdump works with his identical Plextor SCSI Hardware. Driving me mad

DiskDump, all versions of Windows and BILL GATES s**k for producing c**p, and adaptec for the s***e ASPI layer which appears not too conform too a standard.

Greetz too the forum lol :confused:

oxygen99,
I can see you haven't tried blindwrite yet!!! ;)
I have been experimenting with the BlindSuite and as yet I have not reached a conclusion. As for their so called update for the VSO method of accessing your hardware bypassing the os has not been upgraded too v7 as they imply on their site I have re-downloaded it and the VSO layer is still v5.0.0.0

Correct me if I am wrong, but check out the blindwrite site and see for yourself

Greetz too all:)
