Cd recording problems

Hi New to Forum. 1st post
I have been using a cd writer for some time with easy cd creator and all has been ok. My problems started a few weeks ago when I bought a DVD writer. I used easy cd creator to write a couple of dvd's and it worked ok. Then I started to mess around with a couple of differant programmes and the next time I tried to write a cd I had no success. I also have a Freecom usb writer and the same problems occurred with this.
Eventually I decided that something was perhaps conflicting and uninstalled easy cd creator and installed Nero. The same thing happened dvd's ok cd's would not write. I finally reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled with Nero.
I still have the same problems. I have tried differant makes of cd also.
The error messages that I get with Nero are usually (in order)
Track following error
Invalid write state
Could not perform end track
Current programme area empty
Could not perform fixation

Any ideas please. Motherboard is Jetway with Via 266b chipset.

Hi.Could be a dodgy drive, i had the same errors with a screwed Artec4848

Not sayin that is all it could be?

Do U have DMA turned on 4 the Burner?

If it is doin it with all media, i would take it back

It isn't the drive because I also have a plug in usb drive that gives the same problem. I have tried many cd writing programmes and they all crash before writing to the disc. Every now and then it will write one and then it just carries on as before. I mentioned the via chipset because I think my problems may have started when I changed my motherboard. Never had any problems with my old p3 800 with intel chipset.

I hadn't tried and when I read your post I thought that you probably had sorted my problem. I downloaded file and carried out all instructions (even to modifying the registry) but its not made any differance. The annoying thing is that when I first had a cd writer I didn't bother installing aspi at all and everything worked ok.

mmmm this is strange.
Seems that there's a prob with ur device controller. (on mobo)
Try the drives on another pc.

have you tried uninstalling all cd burning software completely using each programs uninstaller remove your usb devices and reinstall the burning software you intend to use... but Just before rebooting re connect you USB devices and reboot and windows should reinitalise the devices with a bit of luck :)

Thanks for the replies.
Yes I have the latest via 4 in 1 drivers installed.
I will try uninstalling all software and devices. I'm considering another full reinstall of windows at the moment. I have put my old Creative 8-4-32 back in the pc and that won't work either.

Yes. Everything appears to be working perfectly till you want to write. Since the last post I have made sure that only Nero is installed and have used a reg clean programme to clean up my registry. Also deleted anything left over from any uninstalls. had another mess around with the aspi layer and rebooted. Tried a data cd and surprise it worked. Then tried a cd copy (Audio) and it worked. I thought I had sorted it (although didn't know how) but I had to try another. I tried to write data to a disc and I got the same errors as in my 1st post. Can't undertand it. I've been messing around for a couple of weeks with this. My next door neighbour (who hasn't much computer knowledge) asked me to upgrade his pc. I used the same mobo and proceessor as mine. His cd copier works 1st time every time and I didn't even inatall the aspi drivers. Anyway I will keep trying and any more help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

maby you got a couple of bad cds !? have you a CDRW to test burn a few times ?! this will save on wasted disks :)

have a few burns at differing speeds and different types of data and audio sometimes the media you are using are rated to burn only at the speed thats marked on the disk :)

Thanks again for the reply. Well this is the strange thing. Its not just a couple of disks or even a couple of makes. Have ruined at least 15 discs from 3 differant manufacturers. However it does write and erase OK to cdrw without any problems. Also Ok writing to DVD (which I haven't tried for a while. too scared) As soon as I put cdr in I go straight back to the problem. I know it sounds weird but thats whats so annoying. Anyway I have just bought a new 25 pack of cdr so I'll give it a go with them and let you know.

Using Windows XP.
VIPER_1069 as i said in my last post I have CDRW and I can write and erase without any problems. Problems are only with cdr. Something else that I can tell you is that although things are not correct I am having the odd success since messing around with aspi etc. I jsut copied an audio cd and everything seemed to copy ok but wmp said there were errors in it. Tried it in DVD player and tracks played with high distortion which gradually cleared by the last track. Still got me beat. As you can see I'm spending ages messing around with this.

Check the underside of a CD that was created ok & see if theree any gaps in it.If there is then it sounds the same as the drive i mentioned, it would work with CDRW, but CDR always usually failed right at the start

I still got a couple of disc's from the old burner & they have been written in the inner part with a gap of unwritten space, then more written data

Could just be the CDR part of the laser is goin on the fritz
