Can't reinstall win 98 se :(

I recently bought a new PC and installed win 98se no ploblems but I had to format the hard drive and when I try to reinstall win 98se again I cannot get it to install again!

I put my in the windows start disk when I switch on the pc to get cd rom support!

I then type setup to install win 98se and it scans the hard drives for errors and then nothing as it goes back to the a:\> prompt!

I am at wits end what am I doing wrong???:confused:

  • Change the options to start with CD ROM support
  • Change the prompt to enter the CD drive
  • Type at the Prompt CD WIN98 (Enter)
  • Then Type Format C: /q (enter)
  • Say Yes to the prompt about are you sure.
  • Then when the Format is complete Install the Operating system by typing setup in the Win98 Folder of your CD

Usaully bad ram is probs with reinstalling OS's .. try differ stick of ram and see if installs ... or that don't work .. copy win98 cd to HD and install from HD .. best of luck .. oh yer even bad mobo (motherboard) could be the prob ...

I took out my ram and put some sdram in and it let me install windows no problem!

Thanks to all the people who replied to my dilema!

P.S I have taken the computer back to the place I bought it 2 months ago will let everyone know how it goes

Hi All

Just aquick note to let you know that they replaced the ram and everything is working fine!

The only problem I have with the place I bought it from was that they were supposed to ring me when the comp was ready I rang them on the off chance today to see what was going on and was told it was sitting there to be picked up! :(
