Can't Play My DVD's On Stand-Alone Player

I used DVD Decrypter (ver 3.23),ran Nero (ver 6.3120) to put everything together on a new DVD-R disc & played my *new* DVD movie(s) on my machine,WIN98 SE,P-4,PowerDVD.All played flawlessly.

I really thought "it can't be this easy".I was right. :(

I tried playing my newly made DVD's on a new stand-alone Toshiba DVD player,DVD-R compatable, & they all stop/start/stutter real bad.

GSPOT say's: Video src Type=MPEG2_VIDEO

Please advise where I went wrong.

Forgot to add that my burner is a LG,model GSA-4120b

Thanks for having a go.

it's seems your DVD player doesn't like the media type (+/-) or the media brand;
do a search at your DVD player fabricator's homepage for compatible media types; or use the reliable "Ritek" media;

I thought compatable DVD-R meant any DVD disk that was -R would work.I know DVD standards are fouled up but surely that part is down pat,the compatable -R/+R part,??

I tried a Maxwell DVD-R disk & a Sony DVD-R disk.Neither would play.

I do know one thing though....I'm glad there are free pgm's available where one can experiment without shelling out more $$ on *commercial* stuff that may or may not work.

Look's like the (either or) -R/+R are here to stay.They are an excellent example of the commercial self-interests outweighing the overall good interest for the consumer.

The problem I ran into is a prime example.

Well I found out the reason I cannot play DVD-R movies on my DVD-R compatable stand-alone player is 'cause the player,Toshiba sdv3925,will not play ANY DVD-R disc's!

What a crock of ....

Toshiba should be ashamed of itself.

At least it does seem to tolerate DVD+ media.

On a side note,because of all my experimenting re DVD media recoding lately, I've discovered DVD Shrink 3.2,along with DVD Decrypter & TFM,are really neat pgm's.

As a matter of fact,this whole DVD recording venture I've begun,in just the last week or 10 days,has re-awakened my p/c learnings.It's been a fun experience,though abit expensive,trying to get everything to work together.

I love these CDR/DVD forums here & all the available info/faq's/guides ect.

I think I may have been to quick to post questions & not at all *quick* enough to read over the various forums here & discover the answers on my own.

What can I say....live & learn.

Seems you found your answer.Some 40$ standalones will play everything,while 300$ units might be fussy on what they play.If looking for a new player,bring some dvd's you have backed up,or created,and try them on a potential purchase unit.

There are a lot of variables at work, dvd media,dvd formats(+ -) dual layer, etc.Certain dvdr media works better than others.Some software is better than others,hardware configurations all come into play.Forums can be a godsend when learning.
