cable to pc

Sorry for the basic question. I wish to connect my cable tv box to the pc to do screen grabs.


What software/ cables are needed?

I can grab stills from a dvd using Power DVD, but i don't see anything that allows me to view from an external source...only from the dvd rom drive.

A "normal" PC does not have Video IN facilities. You need a capture card, TV Card w/ capture or a Video card with TV In & Out. Then you will be able to.

And just to add---if you buying one--be sure to have a s-video(in)couse its a best quality

@ zver .... one problem mate NOT ALL.... video equipment has s-video out

espesh older video recorders and cameras s-video tends to push the prices up most if not all support composite video out and most if not all tv capture cards and good graphic cards have composite video input

The computer has an Asus AGP V8420 Gforce4 64MB Ti4200 graphics card.

Pinnacle Studio 7 SE editing/ capture card.

I was able to use a SCART to Composite IN cable, I don't believe there's such a thing as SCART to S-video IN.

The quality is fairly poor, is there a better ripper I could use for ripping the raw mpeg cable tv footage? GermaniXEncode??

A simple capture with VirtualDUB as an AVI (use DivX codec is fine) and then convert to what ever with CCE, Procoder or TMPGenc.
