Burned DVD's are skipping at end of movie

Here's another newbie question :) I've been having good luck with the Memorex DVD-RW disks I purchased. But one funny thing I noticed is that after some of the disks are burned, there are small colored spots on the bottom of the disk. The disks play fine, but the spots have me concerned. What are they??? Thanks.
I thought they were DVD+RW's last time ?

Did you dribble on them, looking at yourself in the mirror like finish ?
Did you use it as a coaster , then realise it was a good one ?
Is it the dreaded cd/DVD eating microbes people are talkin about ?
:D

Seriously tho, I dont know wot they are, but I have seen the same thing on some DVD+R's I burnt. Wondered if it was some sort of dye 'leakage' between the layers.

ihad problems with skipping etc used dvd shrink as well, found out it was the disks, no name brand , switched to princo no more problems.. using pioneer
dvd-aor5

Question:
I just bought a plextor 708 dvd burner, and am getting Ritek brand blank dvd's. I used to have an HP300i burner, and burned on cheap media. Had problems just as everyone is saying...My question is, with ritek media, and dvd shrink, should i still burn to under 4.0 gb ? or will the better media be able to handle the end of disk....

I use ritek and burn to the end of the disc all the time.

@ stevstevd: The limit is 4.37G, but to be on the safe side (as read errors are a common symptom towards the end of the disk) limit the amount of recorded data to 4.25G. That does NOT mean necessarily that everything beyond that point will be unreadable (depends on the burner/media combo), but since DVD coasters are still somewhat expensive... you get the point, I guess.

I see, well, before i was using the HP300i. I figure the plextor 708 is a good burner based on all the reviews...so I think i should be all set. so I guess I will be making 4.2 gb from now on to be safe.
I know dvd x copy xpress was cutting the file down to like 3.5 or so and thats when i noticed that the problem was the end of disk type deal. But of course, dvd x copy didnt allow much for chopping begining/end.

Anyone else use the plextor 708? or have any input on it with ritek?

I have the 708A and it is a good burner. Very reliable and a geat warranty from plextor. (2 years, they pickup buy courier). I always use Ritek g04 (overprints or datasafe) and very rarely have any problems. If I do it's usually media or I am trying to do to many things when I'm burnng.
