J guess you mean if you must first burn the media, and then print on the (printable) CD/DVD surface...
Normally it would not make any difference on good quality printable media, but on crapolas any part of the two could fail.

Burn after print

If anybody is interested, for info:

I burned onto a DVD which had been printed on. Whilst it might not be recommended, it works.

The DVDs say they are PioData(?) which I was told by the shop are Ritek dye (anybody confirm), burner is Pioneer 107, printer is Epson Photo R200, s/w is InterVideo DVD Copy 2 after ripping with DVD Decrypter (using the easiest tutorial I could find on this site).

Anyway, thanks for the input chaps.

Which dye

Thanks. Will give it a go.

Whatever the dye turns out to be, they seem spot on - no coasters, all play in all players tested.
