Best Virus Scanner ???

I have tried many, many, many Virus Scanner programs
and after all My own gold is "Quickheal v6.06"

But if anyone know even more impressive Scanner program :

Let Me Know !!! :)

Thanks Dudes ....

(( Want to make a little talking session ... )) :D :D :D

There has been a lot of debate in the pasy on this and most peeps agree that the favourites are:

f-Secure
KAV
AVAST

I also like NOD32 but can only use the trial version because the final release cannot be updated without a valid User Name. :(
The trial runs for 25 days but by expiry I've usually rebuilt my P.C.

Too many of the "big names" - NAI, Symantec etc tend to be bloatware and are not as effective as the rest. A good site for comparisons is:

AV Software

Since using XP, I had to change from Nortons 2002. My version did not install.
Now using Quickheal. This is a good one.
Nortons didn't find the " Marberg" virus in the KG for Divx 502, Soundforge and some others. Quickheal did. I don't know how bad these virussss are but if someone knows any more.....please let me know. The 'puter still starts and stops so thats something.

Thanx for the welcome. Seems to be a very friendly place to be. As an older computer nut, I think it will come in handy. I am trying to learn about video stuff. Thanx for the tips CM. Thanx again.

personally I like symantec norton antivirus 2002.
I installed it with minimal settings & have everything turned off in it & make sure to have it not running in the backround.
Whenever I need to scan something I either right click it & scan or if using a download manager (flashget) I let it scan auto after such downloads.

Works better than most (especially since they update theirs more frequently than others).
However there are other great apps. Really a personal choice (like firewalls).
Panda was regarded as the best a few months ago & f-secure is another good one.
I would avoid doctor solomon & McAfee (but that's just my own opinion).

False Alarm - I hope

Imadill - I just tried Quick Heal and was told that some files contain the Marburg virus. I have also tried NOD32, F-Secure and AVAST32 and all state the files are clean.

Based on this, I believe that QH is giving a false alarm and can be ignored.

If you want to find out more on Marburg and its payload have a look here:

for me f-secure seems to do the best job with the least impact on system resources. norton is now a piece of crap. i have to use (supposed to use ;) ) the corporate version of norton on my servers at work. it does detect practically every known virus, after i'm already infected. strangely enough, when i totally uninstalled it from my proxy and ran it without any av software i stopped getting any virii at all. i think the newer ones, especially code red and nimda, actually seek out norton.

NOD32 AV is the Greatest!!! Fastest!!! ExpensivEST!!!

but i can supply monthy update Passwords if anyone interested?!

BOOT VIRUS! Infects partition table.

You need a BOOT DISK anti virus. You cannot catch it RUNNING.

It CAN crach the HD.

So much for ANOTHER boot disk as SAFETY vs utilities w/registries.

I think maybe SOME utilities w/anti virus can BOOT off the CD then scan. It infetcs EVERY DISK you put in.

I am glad I am old as DUM excuse. BUt I learned to be PROTECTED from anything anyone says MIGHT attack.

Why I am paranoid of authors with bugs IN new programs.

Live and let live unless it's the enemy.

Yes please!

@ Newgen
I have a copy of the full app. but are forced to use the trial and rebuild every 25 days :(

User name/passwords would be cool

@ Chi Music
I'm not sure I follow what you are saying? Is it hat Quick Heal detected Marburg but the other three AV's all failed?

I used a cloned image of Windows 2000 without any software running or installed, installed the AV and scanned the "infected" *.zip.

Both NOD32 and F-Secure CAN both identify this virus but didn't detect it within the *.zip which is why I think that QH gave a fasle alarm

Marberg

Well lets hope its a false alarm. Couldn't pick it up in zip form but every time I unzipped, the .exe was quarantined. Had to unzip on the other "puter and take the risk. ( The KG's worked anyway)

Still like QH......very simple

Cheers from downunder....

Well dah! I am old dum but an EXE quaranteened is an infected ZIP read by SOME scanners then. I guess it can NOT be disinfected ZIPPED and most llikey not EXE. Transfering it ZIPPED can probably be safe but never OPEN it, transfer it with what you have to then DELETE IT. CAN be a virused KG set out by someone. My 'author' paranoia. You can't say a THING about that then.

PC-Cillin 2002 v 9.02

I think there is a lot of good antivirus. I tried Norton AV under windows 98 and it works. When I changed to Win XP I began to have a lot of problems so I decided to look for a new antivirus. So I refer to this forum. This question has been made in other oportunities and that's the way I tested first F-Secure but I didn't like very much the infterface and then I test PC-Cillin 2002 and I liked it very much. It's easy to use, to update, they update it very often and it's very very fast comparing it whit Norton. If you like to scan incoming mail it's very fast doing it (Norton zzzzzzzzzzzz)

Good Email Scanner Only!

I'm using F-Secure and am very happy with it. But it does'nt scan email. What's the best email only virus scanner if there is one? I'm using Out Look Express.
Thanks!
