oddly a popular choice (but dont let the punters see it 
) is fine plastic coated copper wire because its very cheap (about £3 a roll from mapplins) its easy to work with and bendable enough to comfortably seat your chip with.
(the reason not to let the punters see it, is that it looks like you fitted their chip with bare wires)
