Autoplay function in WinXP....gone!

Installed and deinstalled various CD burning proggies in recent months, but noticed that the auoplay function of WinXP appears to have died. I've went through the stuff I have on at the moment (Nero, Easy CD-DA extractor and assoc burner, and feurio) and made sure that they all have auto insert notification enabled. When i disable it using feurio then the pooter doesn't notice that I've changed CD, when I enable it , it notices, and I even get the little CD Mouse icon change happening, but the damn thing won't autoplay.

Everything is as it should be in the properties of both my drives, autoplay is enabled I have either 'ask me ' or 'open cd contents' or 'play in Media player' enabled for every option....but it just won't do it...

Any suggestions appreciated....

Try returning the autoplay function back to default on the settings tab.If that doesn't work there is a system problem.I don't know how many different cdr softwares you have installed, but that is the likely cause.

If you have a regcleaner use that to delete invalid registry entries/keys.

One other thing you can do that is drastic is to reinstall the operating system. If you install to the same original directory it will save all your programs and do a fresh install of the OS, overwriting it.Only do that as a last resort.

Well before you do anything drastic

Make sure autoplay hasnt been disabled in the local computer policies

while logged in with admin rights (you might not need it i dont remember)

goto the start menu, run . . . (type in) gpedit.msc
and you see something like a windows explorer window pop up titled "Group Policy"

on the left pane . . .
expand "User Configuration"
expand "Administrative Templates" (within User Configuration)
select "System"

on the right pane . . .
look for "Turn Off Autoplay" by default it should say "Not Configured" but just make sure it doesnt say 'enabled'. To make sure autoplay turn on - disable "Turn Off Autoplay".
