Audio not supported

I've got more or less the same problem as Grant. I've got an avi (xvid) file which plays perfectly in Windows media player but when I try to encode it to mpg with Tmpgenc it says that the audio file is not supported. VirtualDub gives me the same error. Can anyone help me?

Use Gspot to identify what type of audio then search Google for the codec (then download & install the codec) & U should be fine

he said he can play the file with windows media player, so he must have the codec installed. i think it is an asf or a real media file file in an .avi container. AVIcodec is is a great tool the serves the same purpose as gspot,

By default TMPGEnc requires an ACM decoder though where as wmp uses a dshow one.

RealMedia or asf in an AVI?? Never heard of that... not even sure that it is possible. MS MPEG4 or WMV and WMA from an asf is possible though.

That's right. Well I've downloaded Stoik Video Converter so I'll see this evening if that has helped. If not I'll download an ACM decoder (funny, TMPGEnc does it's job without any probs with my other avi files). Anyway it's become more of a question of stubborness now than having the file decoded. Who'se going to win?

If there is a problem with the audio that TMPGenc doesnt like, then simply load into NanDUB, set Audio to Full Processing mode, than hit Save WAV. Use that new WAV file as audio source in TMPGenc and the avi as Video source.

Full processing is not demuxing. Full processing requires decoding, hence the ACM decoder.

Something interesting is the direct streaming mod of AVISynth with it you could decode the audio on the fly but have the video served up direct streaming. Faster in my limted tests to have AVISynth resize over TMPGEnc though.

sure it it possible or maybe the file extention has been changed

I encoded the file with Stoik Video Converter and then to mpg with TMPGenc. It sounds great. Thanx all of you for your help. Special thanx to Carpenter.

I would be going with file extension change there for the real stuff. WMV7 and WMA in an AVI is doable but then it is WMA and WMV in an AVI not WMV/ASF in an AVI. But once again I would think file extension change.

If you are going for DVD, I would suggest that you reuse the AC3 rather than converting it to something else.

oh yeah, i would just demux the audio out of tha avi you got with stiok, and use it with the original video file in TMPGEnc, so you are not re-compressing the video just the audio.. check out BeSweet with BeSweetGUI for audio encoding, it's easy... it would have been the quickest route

Too late. I'll keep it in mind in future. Btw which codec would you recommend? I've got Xvid and Divx 5.

Thought you were doing a VCD? VCD means MPEG1.

Personally I would suggest XviD over DivX 5.xx.

Well I tried this just for the heck of it and it worked so I guess demuxing is not necessarry.
