anti-norton

Sometimes I wonder... "am I the only person that hates norton?" anyone else here using norton. It f***ed a brand new PC I got a while ago.

I use AVG by Grisoft.com now, it's pretty good and not resource thirsty, yep, that'll do for me.

Anyone here usin AVG or Norton? Am I the only Norton hater? lol

Well i use the Norton Utilities since ages and never had any problems. But I was able to solve some of my worst problems and to enhance my PC's performance with them.

Nowadays I also use Norton Ghost for data backup and Internet Security Professional 2002 v4.5 to keep my privacy and to close all those wide open doors of my Windows system (Win XP Pro Corp).

never really had problems with them, but you have to be careful with what you decide to install always.
Think first what is the purpose of what you want to do? Is there alternative software and how good are they, etc.
Personally I like using Norton Utilities (but only 1 or 2 functions) and NAV, but again I make sure none of them run in the background (do all my checks manually). You must also be selective with what you download or install on your system.
For the majority of bozos though, I would recommend other products lol.

NAV..

Last night, our corp lisenced 8.xxx av client (on adsl) at work refused to load - shutting service automatically without any explanations.
any attempt of complete deinstall + regclean + hidden devices remove didn't help...

removed the crap, installed new f-secure 5.40. same phenomenna
reboot - av loaded and reported on backdoor optixkill 30 which (according to symantec site is well known for attacking fw's & av's.
scanning with f-secure revealed 3 more vandals....
the navnt upd was 04/09/2002.

interesting isn't it?

sav (nav ?) corp. 8 did this to me also 2 days ago. i uninstalled it instantly. used virusscan 7 for a day and finally went back to avg.

i used early versions of nu - mostly for 2 or 3 fuctions, which were good (maybe, no real competition with any - such program from mcafee were always shitty). later, i found other programs do those 2 or 3 things better than nu (sys mechanic & wincleaner). cleansweap is a joke, while nav is a hog. even, i feel, ontrack systemsuite outruns systemworks in every aspect. so, i really don't see any point using any of these norton things.

Personally I think the antivirus market is getting more and more confusing. Does anybody know which products has all of the following features?

- scan archives/compressed files
- email protection
- detection of trojans/worms/backdoors
- script blocking
- process protection (or whatever you call it)
- automatic updates
- fast release of updates

right now im using f-secure 5.40 since i saw that thread about AVs. they were many recommending it. there might not be email protection and an interface to rock you out, but its engine and functionality never ceases to amaze me. its a simple but very powerful AV. it costs a little higher that norton AV too. lol
