Another way to change the PID in XP

Hi all. I read this in another forum on an easier way of changing the Product Key in XP. Can I have your thoughts on whether you think this will work? Thanks :D

"In the "Folder Options" folder in your Control Panel, place a check in "Display the contents of system folders" and "Show hidden files and folders".
Then uncheck "Hide protected operating system files", then click on "Apply".

Search for and delete: %windir%\wpa.dbl file and reboot. You will be asked to
reactivate the machine, then choose Change Product Key and enter the correct key."

Well could be you can change reg key after a delete of wpa.dbl. However if you delete this file then you have to activate your OS at Microsoft and that is what most folks with a pirated XP don´t like to do. The wpa.dbl is the file MS write to when you make an on-line activation.

I have a question about changing the PID. I remember during the WinXP Beta days. All I had to do was ran:

%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
and then changed the key there. But now it seems like you have to edit a registry key as well, is editing the registry really needed?
