agp texture acceleration

i have xp pro installed.
i have looked in directx setup and cannot select agp texture acceleration as its greyed out.
i have asrock k7s8x 8xagp mobo.
gforce fx5600 256meg 8xagp card.

i have tried directx 9.0 & 9.ob and are both the same.
is there a way to sort this?the only reason is i installed max payne2 and it said agp texture acceleration is disabled.
does this setting make a big difference?

Which driver? - 53.03 is the latest official Nvidia driver.

In general, don't UPDATE Nvidia drivers - remove the old one using Add/Remove Programs (you'll fall back to basic VGA) and install the new one.

You can usually save an extra reboot if you unpack the driver to a directory with your favourite archiver - the free (optional register/donation) 7-zip from www.7-zip.org works well for this, and then select the INF file when it reboots and asks for the driver - that way you make a clean switch from old to new, but without wasting time with it installing common VGA.
Must admit, I've only tested the procedure on 98, but it works for me - EVERY time ... never had a bad driver install - in fact, you MIGHT get away with an update using that method, but Nvidia's SETUP install fouls up all the time if you update.

It could well be a driver update foulup that's causing the problem, so try updateing or reinstalling same using the remove/setup method or the remove/INF install method described

Yeah, depending on the card & how old it is, the drivers that come with it might be well out of date, just follow what LTR12101B said, the latest drivers form the nvidia site should give U the best results :)

the agp driver sorted it
Good to know you got it sorted bud.

Always good to update your drivers though. The generic nVidia drivers at nVidia.com are updated quite frequently and may well help improve the performance of your card. Your card manufacturer than modifies these and posts them on their site. The generic ones should be more than enough, as nVidia's card design is quite well unified.

Follow LTR12101B suggestion to remove old drivers before the new ones and even better... use DriverCleaner link to remove remnants of the old drivers before the new install.
