8mm film to DVD

I am trying to video tape my 8mm films which are being projected onto a screen at 18fps. When I play back the tape in the camcorder viewfinder (a Sony DCR TRV33) there is a gradual lightening and darkening of the video image approximately every 1.5 seconds.

Does anyone know if there are any camcorder settings I could make that would minimize that? For instance, I turned the exposure to "manual" but the playback did not improve. Is this as good as its going to get?

I'm doing the same thing you are--you must turn OFF the automatic shake feature of your camera. Once that is turned off all will be well---I think the camera interprets the shutter as shake.

In any case that worked for me---incidentally my film burned to DVD look every bit as good as it did on the screen. You will be pleased
