2 hours plus for DVD burn - what can I do next

for sure this is a good idea, so you aren't under time pressure;

btw it's an old saying, an OS upgrade over an existing installation provokes trouble sooner or later;
 
one should never upgrade over an existing operating system unless u r sado maso,wanting future troubles ;)
u'll b combining old problems with new problems 2 get worst troubles

Well XP is now installed & the DVD works at normal speeds, so as expected it was to do with some king of driver trouble.

Wile I agree about the upgrade route in general, my W2K has run pretty smoothly for 2+ years now, so I reckom 98>2K was one of the better ones. Anyway time to move on, & XP seems to work well. A nice clean install to move forwards with...
