<!-- IntelliTxt --> Double Layer media offers genuine advantage over the current single layer 4.7GB DVD. The new Traxdata 8.5GB Double Layer recordable DVD+R disc allows users to read, write or view almost twice the amount of data that is currently possible with the single layer and the advanced technology means that material can be read or recorded on one layer without affecting the other. No need to flip sides or change discs, this new offering from Traxdata means real convenience as well as fast, reliable storage with a wide range of playback options

“We are proud that Traxdata is one of the first brands to offer Double Layer media to the market”, said Floris Evers, Marketing Manager at Conrexx Technology (RITEK Europe). “By being at the forefront of fast-moving DVD technology, we again prove Traxdata is one of the leading brands in the optical storage industry”.

A huge amount of research and development has gone into ensuring Double Layer media is robust. New dyes, reflective materials and production processes have had to be developed in order to ensure total compatibility with DVD standards, optimal power margins and signal amplitudes. Users can be assured that the new Traxdata Double Layer disc has been certified to be in compliance with the DVD+RW Alliance (parent company RITEK is a member). Additionally, the new storage medium has been quality tested by a variety of burner manufacturers and software developers, all of whom have given it their stamp of approval.

The Traxdata single-sided, Double Layer 8.5GB DVD+R disc will be available from the beginning of July 2004 in DVD Box and Jewel Case packaging at €11.99 including VAT..

Double layer isn't looking too clever at the moment...

Insane prices for media, and back to the bad old days of 2.4x speed - and if you use all of a DL, instead of compressing down to 4.7Gb, it works out to effectively 1.2x.

You could probably get there FASTER (in a DVD-9 to ??) by discarding unwanted content, and using one of the faster "shrink" programs, and using a 4x or 8x (or 12x) media at a fraction of the price.

DL is in danger of being a stillborn technology, if anything else arrives which can outperform and undercut the media - the only saving grace is that DL drives are not much more expensive than their previous models - particularly where it looks like only minor calibration tweaks have been made (don't rely too heavily on firmware hacks - how many expensive medias do you want to spoil, to find out that quality/compatibility are not good enough?).

thx 4 nfo bud,but won't b touching DL in the next 2 yrs though...not interested in guinean piggin :D lol
