Well, disabling their "useful" update feature. (Not just by clicking on manual), De-register your ZoneAlarm, or do not register ;) And also you will see an entry at the Site List tab called "zonelabs.com" :D , if you look at it, it will make it's cookies to expire after 999 day... :eek:

1. Download the attachment and run the reg file.
Note: This will break the registration and the update feature, if you like it, don't run it.... ;) (At least I don't)
Let me rephrase: If you don't like the registration and update features, run the attachment. :rolleyes:

2. Click Privacy, click Site List, click zonelabs.com, then click Options, set the settings to your default privacy settings. (You could not delete this entry as it will regenerate like starfish... ;))

If you are doing a clean-install, and want to apply this before so it doesn't automatically register:

1. After you entered your license key, and on with the tutorial, run this tweak.

2. Follow Step 2 above.

By the way, your license file is located at your system folder, and a file called zllictbl.dat (Hidden). You may want to delete that file during a clean-install or if you want to change your license.

After applying these, try to click on the "Check for Updates" button to see what happens. :D

The Update Feature!

For people who wants to know what is sent to ZoneLabs if they click on the Check for updates button before the tweak, here's the data:

ProductName=ZoneAlarm+Pro (Product Name)
ProductVersion=0.0.0 (Product Version)
HU100=.................... (Random Generated ID#)
SerialNumber=............... (Serial Number)
License=. (License Type)
Language=EN (ZoneAlarm Language)
Query=..... (Update Mode Currently Using, Automatic Or Manual)
OEM=.... (OEM Number Of ZoneAlarm, Shown In Properties Of ZoneAlarm's Setup Package)

Not sure if they use the HU100 string to ID you or not... Tracking purposes? I think...

Use the ZA Plus version and all this junk isn't included.

I have given version 4 beta a go...

First the positive thing: AT LAST the creation of user defined rules is introduced! (yay!). Some of the options do not work too well, but hey, it's a beta.
And a negative too: No connection monitor yet?! Outpost, Sygate and Kerio have a connection monitor embedded since ages...

And of course, faithful to its 3.XXX+ tradition, ZA 4. beta crashes... and it crashes rather less than v.3 (not such a big deal...), but if you undig the logfile you can find lots of rather serious+annoying error messages recorded.

Yes, that's what I've wanted also for a firewall...
Waited so long... :)
A connection monitor...
One that can let you see which ports is opened by which application... and which connection is opened by which application... most importantly an ability to halt the connection... :D

So use Kerio if you need it that much=Best firewall and free---What else you could ask for!!!Version2 is a rock-stable,version3 very close to that,as for version4-you should avoid it at the moment--does not perform as it should ,which is understanble couse it`s a beta!!:)

:D

Maybe I will just wait until version 4 to see what modification they made. Hope they put the "Connection Manager" in by then... (Traffic Tab) :D
